I am fascinated with people who believe that the best way to build a championship is by spending more than any other team. They contend that LAD ownership values profit more than winning. Hogwash. I understand how disappointed and frustrating it can be. I am the one who came on and stated the Dodgers need to go BOLD. What I did not realize is that to some only Cole/Strasburg/Rendon means
A few days ago breaking news announced that the Dodgers had signed left-hander Casey Crosby to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. It might not be seen as breaking news for the Dodger faithful who have suffered through a long World Series Championship drought but I expect it is to the 31-year-old Crosby who was born one month before the Dodgers clinched the 1988 World Series
All off-season I have hoped the Dodgers would go BOLD. Of course I was disappointed. I thought this would be the year. But unlike some here, I am not about to concede the WS to NYY (or LAA) this year or any time in the future. NYY CBT is already at $245,341,667 with holes still to fill. $2.5MM more in spending and they exceed the top penalty. The tax is
Several years ago, when the Dodgers traded for Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez (among others), I called BS. I still do. Yeah, I know what Kasten and Colletti were trying to do, but that was not the only way. Five years ago, when the Dodgers hired Andrew Friedman they had the biggest payroll in baseball and had been bounced from the playoffs two straight years after missing them altogether the
The winter meetings are upon us. Rumors are flying about who’s going to sign where and what trades will be made. There are many predictions(hopes perhaps) of the Dodgers going bold. Many have written about the Dodgers being “in on” virtually every top player. On the other hand, Pedro Moura, of the Athletic, expects them to stay pat. What’s going to happen, who knows? This is being written on Saturday
Last year, the Dodgers had Nine (count em, 9) rookies on the roster in total. I did a hurried comparison and I think only San Francisco had as many rookies as the Dodgers. I could be wrong feel free to do the research and get back to me. But the point is: The Farm System is productive and still a TOP 3 system. In fact, if the Dodgers just
We are within 48 hours of the start of the Winter Meetings, and the rumors are that the Dodgers will be active. In the interim, I like to scour the rosters every Winter to see if there is any potential bullpen help out there that the Dodgers might find interesting. Last year I came up with the name Aaron Bummer and found out that AF really wanted him, but ChiSox
What if Clayton Kershaw had gotten Soto and Rendon out as easily as he did Eaton? What if Joe Kelly was lights out in the second inning he pitched? It s easy to blame Doc, but if Clayton had executed and it s not out of the question that he could have, Dave Roberts (actually Clayton Kershaw) would have been the hero. I don t like the results, but the players did not
Mark is often criticizing many of us who seem to propose what he believes to be dope fiend moves. Now granted, there are some very silly FA signings, and perhaps dope fiend is a proper description. But just because a change is recommended and one does not agree with it, does not automatically qualify the transaction as being dope fiend. Per an Andy McCullough article in the Athletic, In December
A few days ago I came across a question asked by a novice baseball fan. It was a he and he said he didn’t see a “C” on any MLB team uniforms. That is the “C” worn by the captain of a team. He asked if MLB teams had captains as in other major team sports. Once again it brought back a memory of an article I have written back
Well, the horse is dead and I won t beat it (very long), but I think Andrew Freidman made a mistake in letting Yimi Garcia walk when he could have been signed for about $1.1 million and if he was going to let him go, why didn t he do it two weeks ago and put Jordon Sheffield on the 40-man? I know that that AF is not perfect, but this move
For two seasons, you could argue that Tommy Davis was the best young player in the National League. In 1962, at age 23, he finished third in MVP voting (behind teammate Maury Wills and Willie Mays of the Giants). What did he do that year? Nothing much, but lead the NL with a .346 batting average, 240 hits, and 153 RBI. The RBI are still a team record. The 240
