Could the Dodgers Really Field Two MLB Teams?
There s not much to do with the MLB season on hold, the NBA season on hold, the NCAA Tournament canceled, High School Tournaments in limbo, schools closed, and restaurants and theaters are persona non-Grotta. My youngest son and I spent the day plumbing his house, the house he has had since he was 18 (he s almost 21 now) and has totally gutted and rebuilt it. It was built in 1900

My youngest son and I spent the day plumbing his house, the house he has had since he was 18 (he’s almost 21 now) and has totally gutted and rebuilt it. It was built in 1900 and he plans to move in by August.
What is there to do? I have thought about binge-watching Game of Thrones, but no… So I will ask, how deep are the Dodgers? Can they really field two competitive teams? I have made up two teams from the Dodger’s roster and minor leaguers. Lets’s look and see.

Now, neither of those teams will win the World Series, the Pennant or even their Division, but they would be competitive. I think they would win at least 80 games… barring injury (they have no depth). How many MLB teams could do that? Yes, some of the youngsters would have to be called up earlier than expected, but sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t. Players can step up. It’s at least fun to talk about when there’s not much else…
The Coronavirus Pandemic
Our country and most likely, the World has not been in these kinds of uncharted water in my lifetime. In October 2009, when the President declared a National Emergency, 1,000 US Citizens had died from the swine flu. However, 30 days before that, a vaccine had been developed and it was not long after that when millions were vaccinated. Right about now, we have a National Emergency and about 60 people have died… but we have no vaccine on the horizon. It’s likely 90 to 120 days away. What is next? We don’t know. That’s what scares people senseless.
We have no idea how fast it will spread. Maybe canceling everything will help. Spring is near and the virus does not like heat, which is why the Dodgers may be safest in Arizona. There are so many things to be answered and resolved. The supermarkets are ravaged. I am ordering on Amazon to stay ahead of the curve. Schools are closed in Indy for three weeks. Everyone is afraid of the unknown. At US Water Systems, we have 48 employees and they are family. We are busy figuring out how we can handle this and make sure everyone and their families have food, medicine and can make their mortgage payments. That weighs on our minds.
My family and I could go into the woods or just sequester in our home for two months and be OK, but we have other obligations that are more important – our employees and their families. That makes it really tough because we watch out for them too.
My oldest son in NYC has had all his film business canceled. He is a stedi-can operator and has no jobs. He is dead in the water, so my youngest son and my son-in-law are taking my F-150 to NYC Monday and bringing him and his two cats back for three weeks. He could have flown but said he doesn’t want to be in a flying petri dish.
His grandmother (who happens to be my ex-mother-in-law) has adopted me as her son because her daughter (my ex-wife) and her son have both died and I am her next of kin. She is part of our family and at nearly 90, she needs some help. My wife and our other kids are almost like her own grandkids. She will be here to greet him. I can only imagine how it is to bury a husband and your only daughter and son. She is excited to see her grandson…
In the meantime, it is crazy and there have only been 15 cases of COVID-19 in Indiana. FIFTEEN! The truth is that this is a media-driven frenzy. I subscribe to what William Shakespeare once said: “The first thing we should do is kill all the lawyers and journalists.” P.S. Lawyers on this blog get a FREE PASS! I know at least 4!
The coronavirus has been very political, but this is not about politics. It’s about life and being safe. I am doing all I can. Be safe, my friends! Wash your hands with plenty of anti-bacterial soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds as many times a day as possible.

Garlic my friends, raw garlic.
I’m in the high risk age group, we can’t change our ages or genetics, but we can boost our immune system. That’s our best defense against any virus.
Along with those immune boosting supplements Bobby and others mentioned let me suggest raw garlic, chop it up, swallow it down with water and ACV . Not only will it boost the system it will keep the crowds away also.

I liked your Dodgers A and B team Mark. I posted a week or so back an a/b position players lineup using what I thought were the best players on the A team. My point was to show even the second level players would be competitive with most of the other teams. When you put the pitching staff on the lineup card it really shows you the depth the Dodgers going forward especially when you take into account how young the guys are. Good read this morning.
As a former journalist, what constitutes journalism today is a joke. It’s agenda driven, slanted and honestly not many know how to write a fact based straight story. Television is worse with talking heads everywhere. This isn’t actually new, it has been heading in that direction for many years.
Technically, social media sites, such as this one, are now considered to be media. Although many of the stories appearing here are similar to the old columns appearing in newspapers and magazines, there are straight information stories as well.
So is Mark a journalist? Yes, I think he qualifies. I will not compare him to Bill Plaschke because that would probably send him to the ledge, but both write opinion based columns.
It’s good that Mark thinks about his employees, it indicates he understands that they are part of his extended family and the foundation of his business.
As to the Coronavirus, it’s important to use common sense and listen to health care experts. The new model has this peaking between April and June. This too shall pass, then maybe we can get back to baseball and other fun activities.

if you really believe that every other Indiana resident aside from these 15 are coronavirus free you are out of your mind. Nobody knows they have it because people are not being tested and/or are still asymptomatic! Please don’t think the virus has stopped spreading within the borders of Indiana.

I happen to think the media serves a valuable purpose. Yes, they tend to sensationalize stuff to gain readership but they also keep people (read politicians) honest (or at least somewhat honest).
OK, I’m sure your last comment will draw lots of opinions Mark, as it has motivated me to respond but I’d like to make my contribution to today’s post with a totally unrelated and very funny tweet.
