All Dodger fans are wondering if the Dodgers will make any trades at the deadline. I will give you a definite “Maybe.” However, do not look for anything significant. They won’t try to replace Max Muncy, and they won’t trade for a starting pitcher (at least a prominent one). They will work in the margins. Conforto is still not on solid ground. Ruiz is an AAAA player. Someone could take a flyer on Outman and Ward. Kyle Nevin moved to Tulsa, but the Dodgers have a trio that likely needs to move there as well: Sirota, Hope, and DePaula (who is on the 7-day IL). This is a trickle-up effect!

The Dodgers could bring up Alex Freeland later in the season, but not just now. He has to be on the 40-Man Roster, and currently, he is not! Emmet Sheehan is due back today. Tyler Glassnow is due back this week. Blake Snell, probably after the All-Star Game, and Roki Sasaki is due back… “whenever” (his development could actually be delayed until 2026).  Josue De Paula and Zyhir Hope have been selected to participate in the 2025 All-Star Futures Game. The game is at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday, July 12th at 4:00 pm ET. Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB Pipeline and Baseball America, handled the selection process.

Any team interested in trading with the Dodgers starts with these player names:

That’s a big NO to me. Chase Harlan and Mike Sirota are #16 and #17, and they are a Hard NO to me as well (Sirota will be TOP 10 by the end of the season). Dalton Rushing just graduated, and there are several more who should be untouchable. Player development takes time. Michael Busch was ready and was blocked at 1B. He could not play 2B, 3B, or LF at a sufficient level. Look at Pete Crow-Armstrong (PCA). Last year, PCA hit .237 with 10 HR in 372 ABs. This season, he is an All-Star (23 HR/.270 BA/,860 OPS in 344 ABs). Shoot, look at Andy Pages: He hit .248 with 13 HR with a .712 OPS as a rookie. This year, he is hitting .293 with 17 HR/.835 OPS in fewer ABs. You cannot gut the farm! It’s taking longer, but it’s likely that Miguel Vargas is going to be a solid MLB player… especially if he were with a good organization.

The Dodgers are loaded. Muncy will be back, but even if he were not Edman and Kiki can handle it. The pitching is coming together. The Blakes are on the horizon: Snell and Treinen. Casparuis and Wrobs can pitch in shorter stints (and be more effective because teams won’t be able to game plan them for longer stints). Tony Gonsolin and the Bazooka should return at some point. Then, there are Edgardo Henriquez, Kyle Hurt, Nick Frasso, Bobby Miller, Michael Kopech, and maybe Alexis Diaz, who could all (or some) play a role at some point.

My recommendation is that the Dodgers stand down at the deadline. They will dial up their intensity in September. Right now, they are on cruise control. Don’t even try to fix it now, Doc. Just keep cruising!

FEARLESS PREDICTION: The Padres will sign Alex Verdugo, who just cleared waivers.

Can we get Belli back to play center?

Just kidding… but I hope everyone here takes a look at a highlight of his fantastic defense against the Mets.

Rushed in to snare a Soto liner at about ankle-high and then fired a strike to first to double up Lindor. It will be one of the plays of the year.

Assuming the pitchers and Max get healthy, the Dodgers should be fine.

The weakest link remains Conforto–and Mullins would be an upgrade with his .715 OPS, 13 HRs and better defense. (Conforto’s recent success has improved him to a .176 BA, .603 OPS and 7 HRs.) The O’s Ramon Laureano would be a bigger upgrade; his OPS is now at .851.

I’d much rather see AF do something rather than nothing.

It would give a jolt of energy to the team.

    Mark,

you left off Rojas as filling in for Max sometimes. He currently(small sample) hitting better than both Kike and Edman.

Had good game Saturday. Kike definitely going in wrong direction

I expect the Dodgers to acquire significant talent for the playoff run. They have invested too much not to improve for the playoffs. Also, other playoff bound/bubble teams will be adding players to compete against us, meaning we cannot compare the Dodgers to the competition until after the trade deadline.

At some point people need to give Rojas his due. He hit well last year and some people said it was a fluke. He’s well this year. Rojas is a very good back up infielder. I agree with you Mark on the trade scene although at some point one or two of our outfielders need to learn a new position or get a very good player in a trade. It’s a great problem to have

Dodgers don’t need any trades .Any need should come from within the organization.Once the reinforcements are back ,we will be a team to be reckoned with. Stand pat AF. Every team in MLB is flawed. There are no better teams right now than the Dodgers. We’re tinkering right now and will adjust once at full strength after the Break.

  11. Brian PerkinsJuly 6, 2025

Stand pat. Bring our own guys back. Plan an attack. Back to back.

  12. dodgerdadJuly 6, 2025

what or what not to do? stand pat or make a splash? I still see conforto as the key. they could let Conforto go and trade for an outfielder. Move Teo to left (he probably needs to move) , And depending on whom they acquire, Pages in center or right. Kike is great defensively, but a liability at the plate. Rojas has been getting some big hits and plays stellar defense. Kim probably needs to play more. Mookie and Freddie are starting to look like themselves again. Well almost. Mookie made a horrible decision trying to stretch that double into a triple yesterday! Guess 3rd base coach is irrelevant to base running anymore. ……. Giving Aaaaasstros their due. they are hitting throughout the lineup. Something the dodgers never seem to do all at once. i know it’s the number one offense in baseball, but it sure doesn’t look like it at times. … is Teo’s defense affecting his offense? the front office gave Teo what he wanted in the offseason. maybe he should pay them back and move to left field more often. … Would somebody, anybody please get Christian Walker out!! Thank goodness he’s in the AL now! …. Hopefully Glasnow and Snell bring some good starting pitching to Dodger stadium soon. i for one am tired of the opener. Understand it? yes, just want some normal pitching! Need a win today! please don’t let the hated stros sweep!

  13. Vinny’s GhostJuly 6, 2025

I couldn’t agree more. They need to just have patience and wait for the guys to return from injured list. They could try and move guys like Ward and Outman for younger prospects.

A good percentage of comments on this blog relate to “who bats where” in the batting order. “Shohei should bat cleanup.” “ Freddie should be the number three hitter.” “No, Freddie should hit second.” “Max Muncy should hit cleanup.” “Mookie should hit 9th.” … and on and on… Where…
