I mean… is that even possible? How is it possible? As you read below what I wrote about the minor leagues, the Dodger system is just “riddled” with these power arms. I have never seen anything like it. Farhan can steal a player here or there (like Nunez) and their farm system is improving, but nothing like what is happening Down on the Farm in Dodgerland.

It was announced yesterday that Ryan Pepiot broke into the MLB Top 100 Prospect List. That gives the Dodgers 6 of the Top 100 players. SIX! Bobby Miller, Diego Cartaya, Ryan Pepiot, Michael Busch, Miguel Vargas, and Andy Pages. Then, I see players like Clayton Beeter, Landon Knack, Jose Ramos, Michael Grove, Hyun-il Choi, Nick Nastrini, Maddux Bruns, and quite a few others and saw HOLY COW! How did they do thiS? Like Keith Law predicted, the Dodgers really may be the Number One Farm System in Baseball.

Minor League News

  • At OKC last night Caleb Ferguson pitched 1/3 of an inning. He allowed 2 Hits, 3 Runs, 1 BB, 1 K, and has an 81.00 ERA!
  • At Tulsa last night, I watched Clayton Beeter pitch 4 innings of no-hit ball and strike out 8. Then Jordon Leasure in his AA debut struck out the side in the 5th. Both of these guys have very sick stiff! WOW! Just WOW! Clayton Beeter throws the ball so effortlessly and throws a pitch about every 10 seconds – he wastes no time in bringing it back to the plate.! Jacob Amaya hit another HR and had a BB. Can he keep it up?
  • At Great Lakes last night, Eddys Leonard hit a 2-run HR. He is starting to heat up.
  • At Rancho Cucamonga last night, Maddux Bruns went 2.2 innings, allowing 3 hirs ans 1 ER. He walked no one and struck out 6. Tommy Kahnle pitched a 1/3 of an inning but gave up 2 H and 1 ER. 19-year-old LH, Ronan Kopp went the final two innings for the win, striking out 3. He has now struck out 19 in 8 IP. Of course, walks are a thing. He has 9.
  • Unlike other Minor League Reports, I do not focus on the game results – I look at exciting and relevant performances from prospects. There are much better Minor League Reports, such as at LA Dodger Chronicles.

Yup, let’s all move in from Bauer. I get it.

But I do have a question, maybe A naïve one.

What exactly is the reason being given for his suspension ?

Suspending a person for two years, without pay, certainly would require a reason.

    Has one been given ?

  2. OldBear48April 30, 2022

Good game. 5 runs on 6 hits, pitching was solid. Even Moronta did ok. But he is about to burst the buttons on that uni. Bauer is persona non grata for me now. He is no longer a Dodger. The team is done commenting on him and so am I.

  3. DodgerHorseApril 30, 2022

That’s how second base is played, that’s a second baseman, a Lux…ury second baseman !!!

  4. VengeurApril 30, 2022

I miss the old days before the new MEGA-LEAGUE, when the Dodgers didn’t have to play sad sack American League teams like the Tigers. NL has enough farm team clubs like Cincinnati, who will soon be 3-20.

  5. FallitoApril 30, 2022

    Suspend him.

The pitch to Baez was all over the plate.

  8. KpizzleApril 30, 2022

Another Bauer accuser…same creepy details as the previous ones. Maybe just maybe it’s not them and he’s the problem?

  9. VengeurApril 30, 2022

MLB wants this to go away. The Dodgers want this to go away. Dodger fans want this to go away. Bauer has repeatedly shown he is NOT just going to let this go away. I hope he can persevere and the shakedown attempt is exposed for what it was, a crude attempt for a multimillion dollar nondisclosure agreement and the utter and complete destruction of a man’s reputation, career and future. Let the truth come out . ALL OF IT.

  10. Singing the BlueApril 29, 2022

Turns out it isn’t a single arbitrator, but rather a panel of 3.

    One picked by MLB

    One picked by the union.

One picked by MLB and the union. Considering how the CBA just went, that third person may take a year or two for them to agree on.

The team still has no clue what their financial ramifications will be since the panel may let the suspension stand as is, may reduce it or may throw it out altogether.

  11. MushersPopApril 29, 2022

    Evidently a new accuser has spoken out. Per the Washington Post;

The Columbus woman shared photos and screenshots of text messages documenting that she had a relationship with Bauer. One screenshot shows a text message bearing Bauer’s name in which he allegedly wrote, “I want to f— you while you’re completely unconscious.”

The article states that he would choke her until unconscious. She had asked to stop doing that but he didn’t.

The Columbus woman and her lawyer, Joe Tacopina, said she shared her allegations with the league. She said she is willing to testify in the arbitration hearing that would result from Bauer appealing. MLB declined to comment for this story.

  12. dodgerpatchApril 29, 2022

    The other shoe finally dropped.

At this point I’m almost relieved. It essentially voids Bauer’s contract, which actually helps the Dodgers. They can now move on, and their statement effectively distanced themselves from the drama and distraction that is sure to ensue.

The thing that always bothered me about this case were the woman’s facial and vaginal injuries, which can’t be adequately explained by “rough sex.” He claims she did not have them when she left in the morning. That she did that to herself or someone else did strains credulity.

I don’t know if the suspension is right or wrong, but I’m ready to move on and focus my baseball bandwidth on actual baseball, not vaginal bruising or due process.

  13. BulldogsandPenguinsApril 29, 2022

To me, it’s kinda obvious what’s going on here. Every suspension that been given out for this sort of thing so far has been agreed to by the player and MLB. Not once, has MLB unilaterally imposed as suspension for a player under this clause before.

I’m assuming that Trevor was offered less, and he told the MLB to pound sand, I didn’t nothing wrong. I’m not agreeing to a suspension. So MLB dragged their feet and come back with, okay then we’ll show you who’s boss. Now, Bauer will appeal and sue until he gets when he thinks is fair.

This really sucks for him and the Dodgers.

I can’t stand Manfred. The owners need to dump that piece of crap.

Jayne Cobb, that sentence in one of my all time favorites I’ve ever read on this site. Cheers!

  16. Mark TimmonsApril 29, 2022

There is a lot at stake here… including MLB’s “Anti-Trust” Protection.

Manfred has no idea what he is up against.

Innocence and Guilt (Evidence) certainly come into play and Reasonable Doubt and Preponderance of the Evidence are also standards that may not specifically apply, but they are more valid than”Whim and Caprice” which is what Manfred has applied.

    This will be Manfred’s undoing!

  17. dodgerramApril 29, 2022

MLB and Manfred are a Joke. Rediculous.

I Hope TB goes all the way against this decision and it will end the reign of manfred

    Go Dodgers!

  18. philjonesApril 29, 2022

Wow. My jaw dropped too. We’ve only just begun. But at least there is some temporary closure for the Dodgers. We don’t have to deal with the distraction of his possible return and the fan reactions plus it appears we know our financial situation more clearly.

So I’m no math major but what I initially understand is he got 324 games suspended. And the Dodgers are off the hook for that salary, starting today. So for 2022 and 2023 he was due $64 million. With the 324 games suspended that’s $200,000 per game. I love that we finally got some relief (maybe) and 200K per game is a nice number.

But my question is how can Rob Manfred spend $26 million Dodger dollars? While Rob had Bauer on “administrative leave” he couldn’t play. And the Dodgers were on the hook for that dead money. Last year’s salary was $235,000 per game. He was “on leave” for 111 games = $26 million. This year it’s been 18 games at $200,000 per. That’s about $26 +or-. How is it that Rob can delay a suspension decision while he forces the Dodgers to spend $26 million. What am I missing here?

  19. FallitoApril 29, 2022

I don’t think it didn’t happened by chance that they suspended him throughout 2024, the end of the contract. MLB thinks Dodgers has payed enough for a player getting his money without performing.

  20. Jayne CobbApril 29, 2022

2 years is insane. My jaw dropped. Unprecedented. Either they found something damning that we aren’t aware of or they have simply lost their mind.

I haven’t seen any statement from the Players Association. I can’t see the players being ok with this length of suspension. If they don’t come out forcefully against this I can only conclude that there is something else out there that hasn’t been made public. I simply can’t imagine the PA standing for this if the facts are what we believe them to be.

Seriously. A player could shoot up with HGH, drop kick a puppy and do a line of coke live on the Jumbotron in the middle of a game and not get a 2 year suspension.

  21. dodgerrickApril 29, 2022

First of all, Bauer will have appeal rights with MLB. He will have to exhaust that before he seeks relief from any court.

Once that process is complete, his grounds for appeal to a court will be very limited. MLB is a private organization with its own rules. As long as MLB acts within its rules, Bauer won’t be able to do much.

What Bauer will have to prove in court is that MLB acted in a fashion inconsistent with its own rules, its collective bargaining agreement with the union, and with Bauer’s contract with the Dodgers.

It’s not a criminal court standard. It has nothing to do with a presumption of innocence or with the fact that he was not charged with a crime.

  22. BumsrapApril 29, 2022

Bauer might win his salary for last year and for 22 and 23 but hopefully if he is not allowed to pitch, the MLB won’t count it against the CBT. The Dodgers signed him so I don’t mind if the courts say they have to pay him as long as he doesn’t count against the CBT.

I hope I don’t have to have to see this regurgitated all year long here. The guy regurgitating on the infield was enough for me this year.

  23. OldBear48April 29, 2022

Wow. Just simply wow. But now they have some wiggle room to add an arm.

  24. Andrew Vincent ForteApril 29, 2022

The Dodgers had to have some idea of this suspension and its length and now are under one monetary threshold and room to make more deals in the future especially at the trading deadline.

  25. Mark TimmonsApril 29, 2022

I do not think the appeal will not be resolved this year, so the Dodgers get payroll relief.

It is possible Bauer will seek Injunctive Relief.

This is going to get really, really ugly!

    Bluto,

By the way, I saw a comment from you in spam from a couple of days ago asking me to be kinder and gentler to journalists.

That won’t happen. I know enough of them to understand why they often hide or slant a story to fit a narrative. This does not just happen in politics, but also in sports (as much or more). Quite often (more than most people realize) they gloss over or ignore something in favor of promoting a certain narrative.

Are you reading about Lux and the “yips” anywhere else? No, but you can read current articles about how he overcame them (it’s a narrative they are creating).

    Any idea why?

Do you think there has been a polite directive not to promote that?

I cannot say how I know, but I know exactly what is going on Inside Yip Control.

  31. Mark TimmonsApril 29, 2022

BTW, the Giants have the #1 Bullpen ERA, but they are relying on their bullpen for about 20% more innings than the Dodgers. They will come back and bite them big time as they wear down… and out!

  32. Mark TimmonsApril 29, 2022

It would appear to me that Garrett Cleavinger and Mitch White will be the odd men out, but then Treinen will be back at some point. Who goes down then?

Believe it or not, I think Moronta is very useful and experienced. I can’t see any way the Dodgers don’t try and move Price. If they could get someone to pay 1/3 of his salary or package another player the other team really wants….???

Dodgers: Reliever Tommy Kahnle Nearing a Return

    Brook Smith

    Apr 29

It’s kind of wild to think that the Dodgers pitching staff could be getting much better in the month of May. With a few guys set to return from the injured list, the bullpen in particular will be something to watch. With guys like Tommy Kahnle and Caleb Ferguson on the horizon, this relief team could be insane.

But Kahnle is by far the closest to a return. In fact, he could be joining up with the Dodgers VERY soon. The 32-year-old reliever has been out since 2020 after undergoing Tommy John surgery while playing with the Yankees. Los Angeles scooped him up on a 2-year deal in hopes that he would be 100 percent ready to go for this season.

He appeared in his 8th game this month during the Quakes game last night. It was also the first time that he had pitched on back-to-back nights, one of the final boxes that he needed to check off before the Dodgers would consider making a move.

The most likely scenario is that Kahnle will be joining up with the Dodgers after May 1st. That’s when the roster sizes will need to be trimmed back to 26 players, down from the 28 that MLB allowed due to the shortened Spring Training.

The Dodgers re-tooled Will Smith’s swing and it happened quickly!

It took longer with Ruiz and I am not sure it took!

They have been working with Amaya on his swing for almost 3 years.

It is starting to look like it is happening!

    Progress is not linear!

  38. BumsrapApril 29, 2022

I wonder if the Dodgers already have Plan A, B, and C ready depending on Bauer’s new status.

Could one of those plans already have a trade agreement with another team if Bauer draws a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card?

Yes, Lux is dreading every throw he makes now. A few of them will be errors. Still, he will make more plays at second than Muncy. Send Lux to Cereset. https://cereset.com/

I’m getting a good feeling about Jacob Amaya.
