The Dodgers are now tied with the Indians for the best record in baseball. Max Muncy and Tommy Edman are rehabbing at AAA and will join the big club soon. Striker Buehler will allegedly pitch today. Suddenly, this team is hot and getting hotter. The pen is rested thanks to Stone and Knack, and the naysayers have nothing to say… oh they still demean Doc and AF because it makes their miserable lives seem a little better for a minute, but they are missing out on the enjoyment of living in the best time to have even been a Dodger fan… and there is no end in sight!

I am looking forward to seeing this lineup (soon) as it may very well be the best in baseball:

  1. Ohtani DH (L)
  2. Betts RF (R)
  3. Freeman 1B (L)
  4. T.Hernandez LF (R)
  5. Muncy 3B (L)
  6. Smith C (R)
  7. Lux 2B (L)
  8. Rojas S (R)
  9. Edman CF (B)

Bench: Barnes, E. Hernandez, Heyward, Amed or Taylor

“Ryan Brasier likely completes rehab assignment, Dalton Rushing hits first Triple-A home run

Brasier has 12 strikeouts in 8 scoreless innings with Oklahoma City, and is on track to rejoin Dodgers Saturday in St. Louis. Tommy Edman played shortstop on his rehab assignment after three games in center field”.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts described that as going well and the next step for Yamamoto is to join the team on their road trip to face batters at Busch Stadium, via SportsNet LA:

“Yamamoto threw a 40-, 41-pitch bullpen, and did an up-down, which is great. Hopefully a simulated game will be next for him. Things are trending (up) for a lot of our guys. … He’s expected to throw that sim game for us on Friday.”

Not too worried. Dodgers took two out of the first three on the road to a first place team. Bullpen held up decent. Tip your cap to the Brewers for retiring the big 3 in order in the ninth.

I don’t care if they think I am a narcissist or a pompous ass (yeah, I see your deleted comments). I just care that they are gone.

I will only say good things about people when they are gone…

    “They are gone… GOOD!”

The Quantity of posts are way down (and they are up elsewhere… hummmm…), but the quality is up!

Ohtani is the best leadoff hitter in baseball.

    He has perfect slide mechanics.

As a good follow up to the Athletic article, here’s a link to one in Fangraphs in which the author calculates how much potential WAR each MLB team has lost to the IL this year.

We’re in first place (worst off) by a mile. Atlanta second worst.

Author details exactly how he calculated his numbers. Interesting read.

There is a video on the interwebs from about a week ago. Gleyber Torres is standing at home plate admiring a home run that wasn’t. He wound up on first base when he should have at least taken second base. A subsequent batter hit a double. Torres was thrown out at home. The manager determined Torres had cost his team a run and benched him.

    From The Athletic:

“Given the timing of the injury, it’s unlikely Ryan will factor into the Dodgers’ plans next year. The standard recovery time for Tommy John surgery is 12-18 months.

Ryan, the converted former infielder, impressed in his first cameo in the big leagues. Manager Dave Roberts said Ryan “was making a case for himself” to enter the Dodgers’ uncertain rotation plans for their stretch run. Ryan allowed just three earned runs in 20 1/3 innings (1.33 ERA) while getting as pushed as far into starts as he ever has in the two years since the Dodgers acquired him in a deal for Matt Beaty and pushed the two-way player into exclusively pitching.

Now, he becomes the third notable young Dodgers pitcher to undergo Tommy John surgery this season, following Emmet Sheehan and Kyle Hurt; the club has already been without former All-Star Tony Gonsolin for the entire 2024 season after he underwent Tommy John nearly a year ago. Dustin May has been out all season after he underwent surgery to repair his flexor tendon and revise his 2021 Tommy John procedure, ramping up before requiring emergency surgery for a torn esophagus last month.

It’s been a concerning spate of injuries for a Dodgers club that, according to Baseball Prospectus’ injury ledger, has lost more days and production to the injured list than any team in baseball. Ryan became the 11th starting pitcher the Dodgers have placed on the injured list this season alone (though five were expected to start the season there throughout the offseason).

“We’re looking into it and trying to figure out: Is there an acute thing? Is there an over-arching issue to get at?” Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said this week about the glut of impactful players on the shelf. “Right now, I wish I had more answers but we continue to dig. We’re seeing it across the industry. We feel it more acutely when it happens to us. But I don’t think this is all that unique.”

I like your lineup above but would put Edman ahead of Rojas. I know you are doing the L-R thing but would rather have Edman higher in the order. Fingers crossed on Buehlers start today.

  19. DodgerHorseAugust 14, 2024

Mookie is our best OF, the one who covers the most ground, the fastest, great arm and a great baseball coefficient, he should be our CF for the next 3 years, Pagés should be in RF there he is very good.

That would be the best, in the remainder of the season for the team:

    C Smith

    1B Freeman

    2B Lux / Rojas

    SS Edman

    3B Muncy / Kiké

    LF Teoscar

    CF Mookie

    RF Pagés / Heyward

    DH Ohtani

wow!! looks like Alex Verdugo has worn out his welcome in The Bronx !! Now who would have ever imagined that?

  23. JimboAugust 14, 2024

I think the team will attempt to manage Stone’s innings the rest of the way to keep him fresh for the post season. I could see them trying to piggy back Stone and Knack.

  24. dodgerdadAugust 14, 2024

Gavin S. +. Gavin L. = good night! If only Stone could manage his pitch count somewhat better. But, with Landon Knack hopping on for 4 innings of 1 run ball, good job! Maybe a good combination for the rest of the season ! ……Lux absolutely crushed that ball! … If i’m not mistaken, isn’t that the first time this season everyone in the lineup had a hit? …. Andy Pages also hit a missle, but once again he should have caught that ball in centerfield.. not a CFer. …. Would be a great. day for Walker to go 5-6 innings and pitch well! I believe he will! ….. Was hoping Jack F. would pitch in St. Louis, but guess not. …. Man oh man what would it mean to get Yamamoto back healthy? Glasnow, Yamamoto,Flaherty,Clayton, Stone/Buehler. That’s special!
