OKC Comets 5 – Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston) 1

OKC got some excellent pitching both from LHSP Cole Irvin and the 3 relievers.

https://twitter.com/OKC_comets/status/2061191287273848899?s=20

OKC got the first run on DH James Tibbs III’s solo HR (17) in the 4th inning.  Irvin got the first two outs in the bottom of the 4th, but he issued his only BB to the 3rd hitter and that was followed by 2 singles for the tying run.

https://twitter.com/OKC_comets/status/2061176160264802383?s=20

In the OKC half of the 6th, 2B Hyeseong Kim led off with a BB and that was followed by CF Tommy Edman’s 1st  HR.  JTIII was HBP.  RF Jack Suwinski and LF Zach Ehrhard hit singles to load the bases.  SS Noah Miller hit a sac fly for the 3rd run of the inning.

RHRP Nick Frasso relieved Irvin in the 6th and pitched 2.0 perfect innings with 2 K.

In the 8th, Ehrhard singled, moved to 2nd on a ground out, and scored on Noah Miller’s single.

LHRP Jake Eder pitched 2.0 perfect innings with 2 K, and RHRP Jerming Rosario pitched a perfect 9th with 1 K to close out the win.

  • James Tibbs III – 2-3, 1 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI, HR (17)
  • Jack Suwinski – 2-5, 1 run
  • Zach Ehrhard – 2-4, 1 run
  • Tommy Edman – 1-4, 1 run, 2 RBI, HR (1)

Here is the check swing challenge made by Hyeseong Kim.

The Dodgers all hit or nobody hits!

  2. BearJune 2, 2026

Dodgers have a +126-run differential. Padres, the second-place team, have a -6. D-Backs have a +11. LA should be leading the division by double digits.

  3. BearJune 2, 2026

Emmet deserved a better fate. Smith is hitting in real bad luck. He scalded those two balls that the CF caught. Pages gets a double on a blooper.

  4. BlutoJune 2, 2026

This, to me, harkens back to Reagan and Tip O’Neill.

Together they closed the federal mental heath support system and sanitariums.

The right to save money, the left to protect the freedoms of those being held.

It put thousands of people back into the public without access to help or shelter.

  5. BearJune 2, 2026

Offense missed some chances early. Move on, 5 game lead over Padres. 5.5 over D-Backs.

  6. BadgerJune 2, 2026

Well that sucked. Out hit and out pitched.

  7. BadgerJune 2, 2026

I taught Special Ed in California. They took a dump on education after Prop 13 passed. That was in ‘78. Never really recovered.

  8. BadgerJune 2, 2026

I went through there in ‘72. It was a dump. You could smell the place from 10 miles out of town. It reeked. I dropped a friend off who was from there. He warned us about it.

  9. BadgerJune 2, 2026

What state did you serve John?

  10. Mark TimmonsJune 2, 2026

    John,

I have a son and a daughter who are All-Stars and another son who has the highest IQ, who daily tells me to go fuck myself. He assails me with texts and emails telling me what a scumbag I am, and I do not engage. His siblings do not take his calls. They can’t deal with him either. I know that someday, I will get a call that he is dead. I can’t fix it and I don’t try. I wish I could fix it. I can’t!

  11. BumsrapJune 2, 2026

Ryan and Stone pushing and Wrobleski, Sasaki, and Sheehan look great. Yamamoto and Ohtani aren’t going anywhere. There is a lot of payroll tied up in Snell and Glasnow that might not be in the top 7.

  12. Mark TimmonsJune 2, 2026

    I hate both sides! That’s all…

  13. Mark TimmonsJune 2, 2026

Gary is coming back. The Bears would help. I used to carry two guns in Gary…now, I’m down to one. 😉

  14. Mark TimmonsJune 2, 2026

I liked Vargas’ skills and hoped his glove would improve. It hasn’t, but he’s the hitter I thought he would be. I took a lot of heat for supporting Miguel and dissing James Outman… who I KNEW would make an OUT Man!

  15. HawkeyedodgerJune 2, 2026

I think DePaula, Sirota, and Morales will be three off-limits.

I agree that Ward has little value. That’s why I figured another arm was needed.

  16. DavidJune 2, 2026

Vargas 2 HRs and a double tonite for Chisox

  17. BadgerJune 2, 2026

    Northern Indiana? The Gary Bears?

  18. JohnJune 2, 2026

One more thing, the eight years I served in the State Senate we underfunded special education by 40% of the mandated by law level. Maybe the mandate is to high but to undercut special aid by 40% to me was inexcusable. In my eight years in the Senate and may the 12 years I was in the legislature I voted NO on the budget. We had plenty of money. We just have the guts to cut what needed cut and spend where it need to be spent.special Ed for that matter education is an easy cut because they don’t have strong state wide strength like some unions or the chamber of commerce. I’ll stop

  19. JohnJune 2, 2026

Mark in my previous occupation I got a call from a sheriff from a county that I represented. This was Christmas Eve. He had picked up a guy who was going to commit suicide. He told me, by law, that he could only hold him for so long. Our mental health agencies in the region of my state are sparse and none had room to hold the man. I called our Attorney General’s office to seek options and of course no one answered. This is wrong but I told the sheriff to use his own judgment but if our places were switched o would find an excuse to hold him at least until family could be notified (he had tried that before calling me) or something opened upon a mental institution. This is happening more and more especially among veterans. Everyone wants lower taxes including myself but as a country(state) or whatever has responsibilities that cost money. I talked to other sheriffs in my districts to see how big of a problem we had. To the man and (one woman) they said, senator the stories we could tell.

    I’m off my soap box.

  23. BearJune 1, 2026

Lamont Wade Jr. released by the White Sox.

  24. Mark TimmonsJune 1, 2026

The Tigers will say no. I think it would take another pitcher like Ryan. Ward has little value. I don’t thimk the Dodgers will trade both DePaula and Sirota.

  25. Mark TimmonsJune 1, 2026

Mental health is in decline… steep decline!

  26. Mark TimmonsJune 1, 2026

In a couple of years, they might be the Northern Indiana Bears!

  27. MattJune 1, 2026

I went to CLT (x2), ATL and Tenn last year. Good season for an East Coast Rams fan.

  28. philjonesJune 1, 2026

That is just sick Cassidy, threats on Scott’s family. What’s this world coming to?

There have been other despicable threats to players and their families. Many are linked to enraged gamblers who have lost bets and seek revenge..

I find it disturbing that the major sports have official betting services and that odds are detailed on screen during games. Right next to the number to call for gambling addiction.

It goes on way beyond what we know and game fixing take us back to 1919, when the game was almost ruined.

  29. BearJune 1, 2026

Kelenic signed to a minor league deal by the Rangers.

  30. BobbyJune 1, 2026

    ALL IN!!

I’m flying to Chicago for the Bears opener Sept 20 weekend, but then on Sept 21, Rams have their home opener vs the Giants.

  34. MushersPopJune 1, 2026

Funny thing about Seaver. There was a line of thought that if his knee had a dirt mark on it, it meant his mechanics were really good that day. In reality it wasn’t true, but Seaver would sometimes put dirt on his knee to play mind games with the opposing team.

  35. BadgerJune 1, 2026

Holy crap! Cost Verse and a first round pick, but so what.

I don’t think they’re done. The still need linebacker help, and depth at WR and OL.

  36. BadgerJune 1, 2026

Most likely Wrobleski instead of Sheehan and DePaula instead of, or in addition to, Hope.

  37. CassidyJune 1, 2026

That was good Orel yesterday. Very informative for us normal fans. Horrible the on line abuse to Scott family. These morons need to prosecuted!

  38. HawkeyedodgerJune 1, 2026

Most likely another arm is needed

  39. BobbyJune 1, 2026

Meanwhile, the Rams just traded for Myles Garrett.

    Great day for the Ramily!

  40. HawkeyedodgerJune 1, 2026

I figured another piece would have to be added

  41. SimonKillerJune 1, 2026

    Not enough

  42. philjonesJune 1, 2026

    Some thoughts on yesterday’s game:

    * Entertaining game early with Freeland and Ward having fun and success.

    * Great to finally see Ward in the lineup.

    * The Dodgers won every inning

    * Yamamoto was brilliant

    * Everybody in the line up got a hit but Mookie

    * ABS has made HPU better, but not Sean Barber. He was tighter than a new pair of shoes.

    * Alex Call reinforced my desire for contact over exit velocity with a 2 run Texas Leaguer in the 5th. Put it in play and good things happen.

    * Bryce Harper is in his 15th MLB season. Was on the cover of SI at 16 and was the most celebrated teenager in the history of MLB, at least in the USA. Is he a first ballot HOF’er?

    * I don’t know if a team can do it at a visiting ballpark but there needs to be a white tape body outline of Crawford on the centerfield wall. What a catch and head-on collision.

WARNING – If you are not interested in pitching mechanics, please stop reading HERE.

I was really interested in Orel’s pitching analysis When analyzing Painter’s pitching mechanics and stride length yesterday, he was pointing out the difference in stride lengths between Yamamoto at 5”11’ and 6’7” Painter.

Yamamoto’s stride length is much longer.

He was actually comparing two different pitching styles that have been taught over the years; “Drop and Drive” mechanics vs “Tall and Fall”.

Much like the 2 different styles of hitting – “Stride and Glide” (think A-Rod) versus “Rotational” hitters. (think Barry Bonds)

Orel was obviously a proponent of “Tall and Fall” where the emphasis is NOT pushing off the rubber to generate power instead relying on gravity. separation and rotation to generate power. Picture Orel and super longer strider, Tim Lincecum.

Orel was hard on Painter’s “Drop and Drive”, short stride, mechanics.

The model for Drop and Drive mechanics, for me was Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan. Big emphasis on pushing off the rubber. Seaver’s back knee practically drug on the ground prior to release. Guys with a thick, strong lower half.

I was, as a coach, a promoter of Tall and Fall. But I did teach a little drop to unlock the back knee to encourage staying back and not rushing. Unlocking that back knee promotes staying back and not drifting toward home plate. That causes the body to be ahead of the arm at release, opening up too early, resulting in loss of control usually with up and away misses.

I called it ‘lead knee first” The lead knee drops as the back knee flexes a little. The model for my “lead knee first” was Clayton Kershaw. His lead knee was up and down with his lead foot nearly touching the ground before he started laterally toward home. He was the best at staying back.

If you stayed with me on this, you get a gold star.

  43. HawkeyeDodgerJune 1, 2026

Not a fan of the check-swing ABS. The umps usually get it right. Free River Ryan

I could go either way on the Skubal deal. With Tibbs, Ward, DePaula, Hope, and Sirota all at AA or higher they’re going to have to clear some people out of there. The three starters at the bigs aren’t going anywhere this year and it’s debatable next year. We can speculate on Teo, but Pages and Tucker will definitely be back in 2027.

Who says no? Sheehan, Hope, and Ward for Skubal.

  44. SimonKillerJune 1, 2026

Phillips could be biggest add of 2nd half.

  45. BearJune 1, 2026

De La Cruz placed on 10-day-IL with strained hammy.

  46. BearJune 1, 2026

Elly De La Cruz is getting an MRI.

  47. BearJune 1, 2026

Graterol will most likely miss the rest of the year.

  48. Mark TimmonsJune 1, 2026

    1. Teoscar has a Grade 1 Hamstring strain – that’s the mildest and very good news.

    2. The Bazooka had back surgery and says he will be back… (be back… get it?)

    3. With River Ryan and Gavin Stone on the horizon, do the Dodgers need another pitcher? Oh, then there are two other guys… I forget their names: Blake Somebody and Tyler Nobody.

  49. Mark TimmonsJune 1, 2026

There are rules regarding dugout seating in MLB. You must be credentialed if you are not a coach or player on the 40-man roster. You will see some players in and around the dugout before and after games, but rarely during the games. That said, I sat in the dugout for a Loons game once. I was ignored! 😉

  50. SimonKillerJune 1, 2026

    Clear as mud 😉

  51. BadgerJune 1, 2026

    Found it:

The Criteria Used in the Check Swing Challenge System:

Under the experimental Check Swing Challenge system (powered by Hawk-Eye tracking cameras), the criteria are highly objective:The 45-Degree Threshold: A check swing is ruled an official strike if the head of the bat moves ahead of the knob by more than a 45-degree angle relative to home plate.

Visualizing the Angle: A 45-degree angle corresponds perfectly to the foul line. For a right-handed batter, if the bat crosses the first-base foul line, it is a strike.

In looking at that video above, the illustration doesn’t follow that definition as Kim’s bat appears to be clearly past the third base line.

  52. BearJune 1, 2026

Hanging out with Brad Paisley, and it looked like his son Charlie, why sit in the dugout, couldn’t have a cold one there.

  53. Daytona JackJune 1, 2026

Kershaw is such a classy guy. I am sure he could have sat in the dugout but chose to be a regular fan, accepting his retirement and letting the boys entertain him. A true Dodger for life.

  54. MushersPopJune 1, 2026

    Way to go AVGO

  55. BadgerJune 1, 2026

Skubal is pitching well again. If he continues through July, somebody is going to get him and if it’s a team in the NL the Dodgers may have to face him in the postseason. They will be interested for that reason alone. His contract won’t be an issue, his pitching in postseason is the issue.

  56. BadgerJune 1, 2026

Having done it, it’s easier than you might think from the third base line. You’re looking for the bat to pass over the plate, which is by definition the strike zone. From that video, I’m not sure what it is they are using as reference. I’ll have to look it up.

  57. DodgerdadJune 1, 2026

The way the tigers are going, they will 95% trade Skubal. Again, I don’t really want the Dodgers to trade for him, but someone will. I would absolutely consider trading for Joe Ryan. Just me.

Nice series win. Should have swept, but 2out of 3 is ok. Didn’t have to face Sanchez, but the boys in blue aren’t afraid of him! Kyle Schwarber is a good dude. Wouldn’t mind him being a Dodger, but the Dodgers already have some guy occupying the DH position. Other than Kyle, is there any other player on the Phillies you would covet(pitchers excluded)? I don’t think any of them moves the needle for me. Harper is still a good player, but I would prefer Freddie over him . And I would rather have Mookie than Trea at shortstop. If Philadelphia doesn’t win this year, look for some major changes! Possibly starting in the front office.

I always dread the Arizona series in Arizona. They’re playing good baseball. 3 out of of 4 would be sweet!

Enjoy the f150 Bear! Looking for one myself!

  58. SimonKillerJune 1, 2026

First time I had seen that challenge. I kinda like it. Mostly because it’s so hard for the naked eye to see.

  59. SimonKillerJune 1, 2026

Almost hard not to be ahead these days. Whatever works.

  60. Andrew V ForteJune 1, 2026

NO to Skubal at the trade deadline. Don’t need him and Don’t want his salary or past arm issues.

  61. Andrew V ForteJune 1, 2026

The Mag 7 plus Avgo(Broadcom stock) .Sticking with them.

  62. BadgerJune 1, 2026

Check swing challenge? At least they have one. Bat went through strike zone. In my opinion that’s a strike.

Two months to trade deadline. If these guys keep it up, somebodies are getting traded. Skubal? Joe Ryan? Maybe the Dodgers believe they can fix Crochet? Will the Mets be sellers?

Another great piece of work Jeff. Thanks.

There are games when it all comes together for the Dodgers. Yesterday was one of those games.

  63. SimonKillerJune 1, 2026

That Ontario game was incredible. If you look at at the play-by-play summary they had ~1% chance of winning in the 9th. Special group of prospects there. Overall an amazing day for the organization. Like the stock market having a boffo day.

  64. Andrew V ForteJune 1, 2026

Jeff, the DSL starts today. Great info on yesterday’s Dodger Affiliates’ games.

  65. BearJune 1, 2026
