LA Dodger Talk

It's Over!

Fire Dave Roberts! He's only won three World Series. Obviously incompetent. Get rid of the old guys! Apparently, players over 30 should be taken behind the barn and traded for a couple of 19-year-old prospects who hit .240 in Double-A.

BREAKING NEWS: THE DODGERS ARE FINISHED! AGAIN!

Well, there you have it. The Dodgers have been exposed. They're old, pathetic, washed up, overpaid, overrated, and apparently ready for the retirement home.

The dynasty is dead. The window has slammed shut. The sky has fallen. And somewhere, a chicken is running around without its head, screaming, "I TOLD YOU SO!"

Never mind that this organization won three World Series championships in six years, including back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025. Never mind that 29 other teams would gladly trade their last decade for the Dodgers' last five minutes.

Nope. They lost. Therefore, EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE!

Fire Dave Roberts! He's only won three World Series. Obviously incompetent.

Get rid of the old guys! Apparently, players over 30 should be taken behind the barn and traded for a couple of 19-year-old prospects who hit .240 in Double-A.

Fire the hitting coaches! Fire the pitching coaches! Fire the trainers! Fire the bat boys! And for heaven's sake, somebody fire the guy who orders the sunflower seeds!

Andrew Friedman? Clearly a fraud. All he's done is assemble one of the most successful franchises in modern baseball history. What has he done for us lately?

And let's not forget the most important people in all of baseball: THE I-TOLD-YOU-SO CROWD!

These brilliant baseball prophets have predicted the Dodgers' collapse every year. And now, after years of being spectacularly wrong, they're finally ready to take their victory lap.

That's the beauty of predicting disaster every season. Eventually, you'll be right, and then you can pretend you were never wrong.

Yes, the Dodgers will make changes. They always do. Some players will leave. Others will arrive. Young players will get opportunities. Friedman will do what Friedman does.

But here's a radical thought:

Maybe losing a postseason series doesn't mean an entire organization suddenly became stupid.

Maybe the other team deserves some credit. Maybe baseball is difficult. Maybe great players occasionally fail. And maybe, just maybe, winning the World Series isn't an annual entitlement.

Of course, that kind of thinking will never catch on with the Doom-and-Gloom Society.

So congratulations to everyone who proclaimed the Dodgers dead!

Your moment has finally arrived.

Enjoy it while you can.

Because if history tells us anything, Andrew Friedman is probably already planning your next nervous breakdown.

And when the Dodgers start winning again, I'm sure you'll be there to tell us you knew it all along.

PLANET REALITY: POPULATION UNKNOWN.

Really? That’s it? A preemptive strike against yet to be known naysayers. For the record I am very proud of the Dodgers and would have no issue if they brought everyone back and played it again. The Dodger brain trust knows way more than I do. My job as a 82 year old fan is to cheer them on. Go Dodgers!

I for one am extemely proud of this team and organization. 14 consecutive playoff appearances, 5 world series appearances and 3 championships in 6 years, what an amazing run. We are spoiled to be Dodger fans. It isnot over, we donot need to rebuild just retool. Starting pitching is great just need to add some solid youth to the lineup. Brewers outplayed us in every facet of the game and deserved to win. There is a reason only 2 teams have ever won 3 WS in a row because its so hard to do. So instead of ragging on this bunch, I tip my cap to them and cant wait until next year

It doesn’t bother me in the least to see very passionate fans “rant and roar” and make irrational and emotional comments on the four-game sweep in the NLCS. Some of these fans are fully committed while others may not know the difference between a suicide squeeze and a sac fly. They say odd stuff but So what!

Many of these fans comments (like fire Doc) will never come to fruition but those same fans never expected the Dodgers to sign Diaz or Tucker coming off a WS championship.

Doc won’t get fired but there will be changes and players will be traded and others will not be re-signed. Coaches might move along. Is Geren coming back as the strategy coach? Is Prior or RVS safe? Does Ebel want to stay?

None of us know for certain but we do the Dodgers have to get younger and more athletic. They have to find more team speed and they need to shift from the all or nothing offensive approach. They must learn to be less reliant on HRs for runs.

Wonder if any FAs will be signed before the lockout? How long will the lockout last? Will we see Spring Training in the Spring or will we see it in the Summer?

The Dodgers lost to a better team plain and simple. A team with a better offensive approach, a team with a better BP and this year a team with more clutch.

Is great being a Dodger fan and even though our team lost this has been the best Dodger post season run in the history of the organization.

I couldn't read more than 3 paragraphs of your Post, Mark. Maybe in the morning.

I prefer you to say what you think and not try to put words in the mouths of your readers, especially if sarcasm is overdone.

I'm ready to use the time I would have given to watching the Dodgers for other things. I would have loved a 3peat even with the payroll as it was.

I hope we have a full season of MLB next year and have the Rays relocate to Portland, OR.

While the Dodgers were busy getting swept, I was able to take solace in the continuing exploits of the Hong Kong International School Dragons, featuring a crafty southpaw who happens to be my youngest son. This was the big game in the APAC tournament in Shanghai against the the mighty Lions of Brent School in Manila, the defending champs. (APAC stands for Asia Pacific Athletic Conference, or something like, pitting an array of international schools in competition.) The baseball competition is especially goofy. The day before, the HK Dragons defeated the Beijing Dragons 27-0, following an earlier rout of Shanghai team. My boy struck out Brent's leadoff hitter. Up stepped Brent's star catcher, a boy named Garcia who is rumored to be a Duke University commit. He did a loud Jackson Chourio imitation, the ball landing far beyond the centerfield wall. (Not a surprise. He did the same thing against my southpaw in last year's tourney.) But the Dragons and their lefty, my lefty, settled down. Compared to the keystone cop antics of the previous day, the defense from both the Dragons and Lions was remarkably sharp for the next few innings before the Dragons rallied to take a lead. Then the defense started to slip--literally. With a runner on first base, my southpaw fielded a come backer on the 1B side The safe play would be a short toss to 1B for one out--but lefty knew hen could get the lead runner and perhaps start a double play. But as he turned, his feet slipped out from under him, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Unlucky! Then came a hard hit grounder at the third baseman--but this potential double play ball glanced off his glove to load the bases. Ugh. Later came a clean single to put Brent ahead, and a sacrifice fly to score another, and then a lazy fly ball that coulda woulda shoulda been the third out... but a poor read by the rightfielder allowed it to drop. Ugh. And so after throwing 100 pitches and allowing only two earned runs, my boy handed the ball to a reliever, and shifted to RF. The reliever gave up another run on bad pickoff throw to 3B. Heading into the bottom of 6th and likely last inning (time constraints), the Dragons were down 6-1. And then.... a rally! The Dragons followed a single with a walk. Later came a drive just beyond the centerfielder's glove--a valiant effort that somehow earned him a knee injury, resulting in long injury delay Then the Dragons caught a break when his replacement appeared to catch, and then drop, a liner to left center. Brent argued that their fielder lost the ball on the transfer, but the umps conferred and ruled it a clean hit, bringing in two runs. Suddenly it was 6-3, and my boy the crafty rightfielder was stepping to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. He was clutch, delivering a liner over the shortstop to knock in two runs and make the score 6-5. A true nail-biter. The next batter also hit a liner.... that, alas, found the shortstop's glove. Game over. While all this was happening, I was hearing updates from other parents on the game from LA. The first report had the Dodgers up 4-0. Shohei homered! The subsequent reports, of course, showed the game slipping away. A dad from Manila was jubilant in declaring the Brewers' triumph. So the Dodgers' season is over, which is a bummer, but Dragons season is not. This game was the semi-finals. If the Dragons can beat the Shanghai Canadian school later today, they'll square off against Brent in a rematch tomorrow.

My first thought is who playing left field for us in 27.Can we get the rook ready to play it and not kill us out there!I would have him there shagging 300 fly ball ,hard balls to the corners ,every kind of hard hit ball each day.He is too great obp hitter not to have in our lineup.

  7. dodgertifosiOctober 16, 2026

Dodgers had a great run the last 2 years winning back to back titles for the first time in their HISTORY! Say that again: In their history. 136 years. I am glad that the universe allowed me to be part of this as a fan.

Dodgers will make another run next season. No need to sour over the loss to the Brewers who got red hot in every phase of the game at just the right time, even starting to hit HRs . Dodgers on the other hand did not play up to their capabilities . No slug, shoddy defense, leaky bullpen and even our biggest strength, our starting pitching, faultered threwout this series.

For next season I would like the Dodgers to get a little bit more athletic and younger. Rojas and kike should finally retire, Teo should be traded to make room for JDP , I would listen to offers for Glasnow and try to resign Skubal to form a lethal 1-2 punch with Yama. But all that is discussion for another time.

Mark, I appreciate your sarcasm and your ability to create a very decent column. What I would really appreciate at this point is to hear your idea of what realistic changes the Dodgers could make going into next season. I'm sure you feel that some changes will and need to be made because like many fans, I feel the 'dynasty' is dead in the water. What I mean by dead is that they won't be making any World Series appearance for a while. Maybe they could possibly still make the playoffs as that is a more realistic goal for this team. Whaddya think?

  9. MushersPop6d ago

Rojas officially retired. If Freeland becomes his replacement, the Dodgers will become younger. One problem solved.

    Maybe time for a rebrand?

“Maybe losing a postseason series doesn't mean an entire organization suddenly became stupid.”

Nobody is saying that Mark. I understand your frustration, many of us share it, but there is no need for you to go after posters.

There will be plenty of time for an autopsy. This team of sluggers and high velocity pitchers just ran out of gas, plain and simple. It happens. How to prevent it from happening again? Everyone will offer potential solutions but until there is a new CBA there will be no blueprint. The Dodgers 2027 projected payroll with CBT is around $394 million and nobody knows how existing contracts might be grandfathered in. The names at the top of the list on spotrac.com, Tucker, Ohtani, Snell, Betts, Glasnow, Yamamoto, Freeman will remain. None are everyday players, none are every 5th day pitchers. How will the roster around those guys be constructed? Who knows. But it’s going to be entertaining.

I don't understand the last couple of articles. But it's not my blog. Where are these people you're talking about? I am a proud Dodger fan and I am holding my head high. They had another strong dominant season and accomplished more than all but 3 teams. I am not disappointed, I am grateful that the Dodgers sustained excellence gives me a champion to cheer for year after year. From Mark Walter down to the peanut vendors, thank you! Book em

    1. This blog is read by over 10,000 a day... maybe only 100 post.
    2. Lots of people revel in the Dodgers' demise.
    3. This blog was for the naysayers.
    4. If it doesn't apply to you, don't worry.
    5. I am already working on changes that could come next year. (Hint: One is that Freddie could be gone).

Even though the Dodgers just got swept by the Brewers, my pride in this team hasn’t wavered one bit. Baseball is a game of highs and lows, and this season gave us plenty of moments to cheer, celebrate, and believe. Watching our players fight, even when the odds were against them, reminded me why I love this team — it’s about heart, resilience, and the bond we share as fans. Sure, the sting of defeat is real, but it’s only fueling my excitement for next year. Win or lose, I’ll be wearing Dodger blue with my head held high, because loyalty runs deeper than the scoreboard.

My take is that we made it to the national League championship series and it seems like at least half if not more consider doing that a failure. Whether it's fire Roberts or RVS or trade Freddie or whatever. Many many coaches would get a 5-year extension if they made it this far.
