LHSP Cole Irvin significantly struggled in his 1.1 IP. He had some traffic with a single and BB in the 1st. But that was simply a preview. In the 2nd, after the leadoff batter K’d , a double, BB, E6 loaded the bases. A triple scored 3, and that runner scored on a FC. A BB and infield single loaded the bases. That was followed by a 2 run single. That single, signaled the end for Irvin. RHRP Carlos Duran relieved Irvin and gave up a single to load the bases before striking out the next two batters.
The Isotopes hit a triple and single in the 3rd to score a run.
CF Zach Ehrhard hit his 3rd HR to get the Comets on the board.
After RHRP Griff McGarry retired the side in order in the 4th, with 2Ks, RHRP Jordan Weems followed. 2 BB, a steal of 3B, and a ground out scores another Isotope run in the 5th.
In the 6th, 2B Alex Freeland reached on E5. LF Ryan Ward and DH Tyler Fitzgerald both singled, and Freeland scored.
LHRP Ronan Kopp had his best outing of the year. He did not allow a baserunner in the 6th or 7th. Also no strikeouts. A total of 23 pitches in 2.0 IP, 16 for strikes. It was an encouraging night for him. Will he be able to back it up?
With LHRP Antoine Kelly pitching in the 8th, he allowed a single and BB, but no runs. He had 2 Ks.
The Comets did not threaten in the 9th.
The two Fitzgeralds, Ryan and Tyler, had 2 hit nights.
Springfield Cardinals 9 – Tulsa Drillers 5
After winning Texas League Pitcher of the Month for April, RHSP Patrick Copen has thrown back to back stinkers. His ERA has gone from 0.96 to 4.38. For the month of May, Copen has 9.0 IP, 16 hits, 10 BB, 16 runs (15 earned), 12 K.
In this one, Copen allowed 2 runs on a BB, 2 singles, and error in the 2nd.
Tulsa got one back in the 2nd. LF Zyhir Hope struck out but reached 1B on a WP. SS Elijah Hainline drew a BB. C Griffin Lockwood-Powell singled to bring Hope home.
The Drillers went ahead in the 3rd. RF Josue De Paula led off with a BB. 1B Kyle Nevin singled. With one out, Hainline singled to score De Paula and moved Nevin to 3rd. Nevin scored on a ground out.
In the 4th, 2B Sean McLain drew a BB, and moved to 3B on a WP and an errant pickoff throw. McLain scored on a 1-out De Paula single.
Copen took a 4-2 lead into the 5th. However, he allowed a 2-run HR and a 3-run HR and left trailing 7-4. RHRP Cam Day relieved Copen. He completed 2.2 scoreless and hitless innings. He had 1 BB and 3 K.
The Cardinals scored two in the 8th off RHRP Lucas Wepf after a BB, SB, RBI single, and RBI double.
In the home half of the 8th, CF Kendall George hit a 1-out double, moved to 3B on a WP, and scored on a De Paula ground out.
LHRP Christian Suarez pitched a scoreless 9th.
GLP was the lone Driller with 2 hits. GLP and George each had a double for the only XBH.
Great Lakes Loons 4 – West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit) 3
LHSP Sterling Patick pitched a brilliant 6.0 scoreless innings. There were 4 hits off Patick, 1 BB, and 4 Ks.
Great Lakes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st. CF Mike Sirota led off with a double (11) and scored on RF Eduardo Quintero’s RBI single. Quintero stole 2B. LF Charles Davalan drew a BB. Quintero and Davalan pulled a double steal. Quintero scored on a WP and Davalan scored on a 2-out fielding error.
There was no scoring until RHRP Reynaldo Yean came in to relieve Patick in the 7th. Lead off BB, and a 1-out BB put runners on 1st and 2nd. Yean had an errant pickoff throw and the runners moved to 2nd and 3rd. Both runners scored on WPs. RHRP Davis Chastain came in to close out the 8th.
But in the 8th, Chastain served up a game tying solo HR.
Now tied at 3-3, with 1-out, SS Eduardo Guerrero singled. He moved to 2nd on a WP. After a BB to DH Victor Rodrigues, C Jesus Galiz delivered the walk-off single for a 4-3 win.

RHSP Isaac Ayon pitched an outstanding 5.0 scoreless innings. He allowed 1 baserunner (single), and registered 10 Ks.
RHRP Jholbran Herder entered in the 6th and gave up a single. The runner stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a ground out for the only run of the game.
In 2B Kellon Lindsey’s first game back from 2025 injury, he went 2-4 including a triple (1). He was the only Ontario batter with a multi-hit game 1B Easton Shelton (1) and 3B Chase Harlan (2) also had triples. Harlan was thrown out a home trying to stretch it into an inside the park HR.
Ontario was 0-7 wRISP.
ACL Giants 29 – ACL Dodgers 2
The two runs the ACL Dodgers scored came from solo HR’s from 2B Bryan Gonzalez Garcia (2) and LF Abel Lorenzo (2).
Catcher Francisco Espinoza had a 2-hit game.

According to Dusty Baker, Altuve was innocent and refused to participate in the Big Theft of ’17. I know a lot of people were ready to convict him because of that shirt thing, but I’m going on record as saying I believe Dusty (and Altuve). Won’t say the same for Correa or Beltran. But in any case, I’m over it. Ten years is long enough to carry a grudge. I don’t have a problem with those of you who will carry it to your grave. I’m just going to save my fury for something else. I never panic, I might voice concerns, but panic? Nope, they just don’t teach that where I come from.
Four teams attest more to his defense than his prowess with a bat. Three batting titles, in three straight years, never has hit below .292 in his career. His defense this season has been stellar. Guy is a career .317 hitter. He might not have Kim’s speed, but he is far from light hitting. He is a hit machine. Perfect guy to set up the big bats. Led the league in hits twice.
He won’t come close to matching Skenes in Ks and innings. He has a lot going for him now, but unless the Dodgers amp up the run production when he pitches, he just is not going to win a lot of games.

I cannot tell if Arraez is a prick. I do not remember him with that type of reputation with Minnesota or Miami. Maybe he got a bad rep while playing in San Diego playing with Machado and Tatis Jr. He sure does seem to smile a lot at the LAD players. I like his game, and I think it would be refreshing to have that type player on LAD , from a baseball standpoint. I do not know his character.

They did do well. And while this list is OF top heavy, they have enough prospect talent to put together a package in another trade. Their international picks are not as prevalent the last couple of years. Sasaki’s signing drained them for 2025 They did not sign a top international prospect in 2026. They did lose one of their top signees when they traded Jose Requena to Arizona for Alek Thomas. The Dodgers top two 2026 international prospects could be good or they could be a reach. Who really knows at 16-17. Dominican outfielder Rubel Arias (signed for $1MM), and Dominican shortstop Ezequiel Melbourne (signed for $750K). DSL starts June 1.

AI is a tool, and I frequently argue with it. It makes mistakes. It also saves huge amounts of time. I did this is 30 Seconds:
Some people can become emotionally dependent upon it. At US Water Systems we use it to accomplish tasks that are time-intensive. In web design, it saves us hundreds of hours a month – 30 DAYS! It’s great for contracts – we still have our attorney review. I am writing a book, and if it contains any AI, the Publisher will reject it. It’s like anything else. It can be great when used properly. Impropely can be a disaster.
Mark if you remember I was with you on Vargas. He needed to go and get a new lease on life. I still think he will have a good career.
Probably too much swing and miss. His strikeout rate is up to 27%.. He does not have a plus tool. Afte his fast start, he had 7 HR and 12 RBI at April 4 (8 games). SInce then, he has 4 HR and 15 RBI (21 games). His last HR was April 26. He has three doubles thus far in May for his only XBH. His OPS for May is .577. He is a future MLB player. Is he a future All Star? Is he a future everyday player? Fangraphs rates him as a 45 FV which is not top 100. The first part of his Fangraphs Scouting Report: “Scouts who watched Tibbs last year all see a useful player, but they’re divided on whether the hit/power combo is good enough to carry an everyday role on a playoff team. ” He has good plate discipline with good bat speed. He is a good prospect, just not elite.
I keep close tabs on Miggy Vargas because several people really rode me hard for predicting that he was going to be a “very good player, not a superstar.” Today, he is hitting .240 with a .376 OB%, .473 SLG, and .849 OPS. He has 9 HR and 30 BB in 146 ABs. Miguel Vargas at 3B is kind of a “bat-first player trying to convince everyone he owns a glove.” He’s not a disaster over there, but he’s generally viewed as below-average defensively at third. 1B or DH may be his best position, but I think his bat will continue to get better.
