Don’t expect this often; it might not mean a lot that Muncy, Kim, Rushing, and Outman were hitting. It was against the Little Sisters of the Poor, so there was that. However, it was good to get a glimpse of what Dalton Rushing is about and see Kim continue his quest to make the Dodgers’ roster (based upon what I have seen, the Dodgers are better with Kim on the roster). Max Muncy looks to be getting untracked, notwithstanding last night’s game. James Outman even ran into a couple.

Hyeseong Kim looks to be a sparkplug, a game changer. Speed kills, and he not only has speed, but he has the instincts as to how to use it. I appreciate Mike C’s comments, as he knows CT3 and that he is a very good guy. I value guys with great character, and CT3 has that. So did Austin Barnes. However, Dodgerrick reminded us of this:

The Dodgers called up Rushing because he’s an improvement over Barnes. Is Kim an upgrade over Taylor? Then he deserves the shot. Baseball is a meritocracy. If you’re better then you get to play.

–Dodgerrick

If everyone is healthy, and Kim keeps playing at a high level, Rojas or Taylor are the odd men out. It’s that simple!… and we still can’t forget Freeland!

Dodger News & Notes

  • Nick Frasso pitched five innings for OKC last night. The five innings are the key, not the fact that he gave up four runs. His health is the main factor. The “stuff” is there.
  • Joendry Vargas has moved to Rancho Cucamonga to play SS and, in fact, was 2-5 last night.
  • Elijah Hainline (.312) and Samuel Munoz (.290) are progressing nicely.
  • Payton Martin went five innings in the Complex League, allowing seven hits but just one run.
  • They just moved Jake Gelof to GL from the Complex; Miller is also there playing SS. Evidently, the Dodgers are sending some prospects back to work on things and then bringing them back up.

The only reason to send Kim down is to get him more reps in CF. If he’s going to be a utility guy come post season that’s one area he could improve. Kim could take better angles in CF. Other than that he improves the team now.

The defense is significantly better with Kim at 2B, Edman in CF, and Pages in a corner.

  2. Mark TimmonsMay 17, 2025

You can’t say they aren’t giving Outman an opportunity!

    A few observations:

Matt Sauer looks like a big league pitcher. He has the stuff needed to get outs and looks like he’s learning from the coaches how to pitch better horizontally, not just vertically. He’s been up and down between LA and OKC, but he’s doing what’s needed to stick with the big team. (He’s from the same High School as Robin Ventura)

$$ just isn’t the highest priority factor with personnel decision making right now. That points to CT3 being the next casualty. ( My mom is going to hate when that heppens)

Many teams in baseball would love to have a staff of Yamamoto, May, Gonsolin, and Kershaw. Amazing how, if all healthy that is options 5, 6, & 7 for us.

And one question: What do we really see is the future for Bobby Miller?

  8. MattMay 16, 2025

You all were ready to BURY Pages after 10-15 games and now you are ready to anoint Kim.

Lets let it play out a bit….Kim has looked good, but its a very VERY small sample size…

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Hernandez (adductor) will require a rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list, Dodgersbeat reports.

“While Roberts didn’t divulge when exactly Hernandez will begin playing in rehab games, it should happen soon. The skipper noted when Hernandez went on the IL earlier this month that the outfield could be back in two weeks, and that timeline would have him returning mid-week next week”.

  10. Andrew Vincent ForteMay 16, 2025

Manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Edman (ankle) is close to returning from the 10-day injured list.

“Roberts didn’t offer up a specific return date, but it appears Edman could be activated this weekend versus the Angels or early next week against the Diamondbacks. The 30-year-old suffered the ankle injury in late April and is poised to rejoin the Dodgers without embarking on a minor-league rehab assignment. Hyeseong Kim has taken advantage of the absence with a 1.038 OPS in his first 12 big-league contests, but Edman shouldn’t have an issue maintaining a regular spot in the lineup after posting a .252/.295/.523 slash line with eight homers, two steals, 24 RBI and 19 runs in his first 30 games of the year”.

  11. SpokaneBobMay 16, 2025

Everything we do is about building the best team possible for October. I believe that having both Edman and Kim in the line up makes our offense the best it can be. They provide the bat to ball skills along with game changing speed that complements our power hitting line up. Kim at second and Tommy in center.

So that means we have 3 outfielders and two open positions. I know that both Pages and Conforto have started hitting better of late but if I have to choose between Kim and Pages or Conforto, I think Kim brings more to our offense. In addition, Kim will be a BETTER player in the postseason if he stays in the big leagues all year. This doesn’t mean that neither Pages or Conforto would be in the line up, but they could platoon in left and if Teo or Tommy got hurt we would have a backup. Also makes our bench deeper and I think both players would get plenty of playing time.

Who goes ? I would keep Miggy and thank CT3 for his service.

  12. Mark TimmonsMay 16, 2025

Last week, the Dodgers’ bench was all RH.

They cut Barnes and added Rushing, who is LH.

Kim is coming,g and nothing can stop the Comet because he is LH! 😉

  13. GusMay 16, 2025

If the dodgers keep kim to play 2b when teo and Tommy return, conforto will be on the bench 17 million and all.

  14. DavidMay 16, 2025

I think we are forgetting Outman. Certainly he has to be the FIRST to go when Edman/Teo comes back

  15. Jorge ValenzuelaMay 16, 2025

Possibly, but I don’t think that’s necessary with hitters, I can believe it with pitchers.

  16. DanoMay 16, 2025

The Dodgers use the injured list , DFA’s and minor league options better than anyone. They are an extremely well oiled machine. And to be entertaining in May is awesome. I expect Kim to play 2nd for a while. Edmans is staying on the SIL (stealth injury list) for a little longer. The chess pieces are flying. By the time Tommy comes back, someone else will get…cough cough…..injured. Allowing Kim to stay. If not then I agree with Matt. Send him down. Me thinks Miggy and CT3 will continue to be the 25th and 26th men for the foreseeable future.

    Book em

  17. Jorge ValenzuelaMay 16, 2025

I think Rojas will be the next to go. And the next in line would be Taylor, who by the way can play the outfield very well, and Rojas could end up as a coach or manager in the Dodgers’ minor leagues.

Why can’t Kim play everyday in the majors? It’s very early and he could easily crater, but the team can easily move Edman to center and put Teo and Pages in left and right. I wonder long term if Smith or Rushing will learn 3B as an option to Freeland playing there if he can’t play SS in the majors. Any guesses who gets DFA when the team activates Kershaw?

  20. GusMay 16, 2025

    Mark,

Im a big fan of ladodger talk but have never commented before. I believe when Teo and Tommy come back conforto should go. There is no room with Teo in lf, tommy in cf and pages in rf. Kim stays up and plays 2nd. Neither taylor or conforto are hitting even though ct3 has really not gotten a chance this year. Ct3 can be a late game defensive replacement almost anywhere and pinch run, conforto can only play lf and not very good, has no speed and right now no bat

I was of the opinion that Taylor, Rojas, and Barnes would finish the season with LA…

As I get more data, I have changed my mind. Only a fool doesn’t change his mind.

It’s possible all there are gone by season’s end.

    One down…

  22. DavidMay 16, 2025

In the DFA sweepstakes I pick Taylor as next

  23. Andrew Vincent ForteMay 16, 2025

Tough decision for AF and BG when Teo and Edman return from the IL.Outman is the easy one and he returns to AAA Oklahoma City, but does Kim stay on the Dodger’s MLB roster and who does he replace? His value and talent are far greater than what Taylor provides. It’s a tough business and reults are all that matters. Being a good guy when you’re trying to repeat as World Champions really doesn’t matter.
