Well I have been in California a little over a week. And the game is the same, but the view is much different. Lots of Dodger Blue here. Not so much Rockies Purple. Watching the games on Sportsnet LA is a lot different than watching them on MLB.TV. I get to watch the pre and post game shows. None of that on MLB, Lots of Dodger replays on that station, plus my sis gets the MLB station. So there are games on there too and lots of in game updates.

Friday I am heading up to Oregon to see my oldest and my granddaughter I have never met. But I will not be able to get the game. No WiFi on the train. We do not get into Portland until 3:30 on Saturday, then we have a 5 1/2 hour drive to where my daughter lives in Milton Freewater. But I think I can go a few days without being able to watch.

Back when I was stationed in Germany, we did not get to see any games. Occasionally AFRN would have a Dodger game on the radio. But there was no TV. So it was nice to see them snap the losing streak and score some runs. Their record when Kersh pitches after a loss is amazing. The bullpen still concerns me some. And the injury bug has really fouled up the works. But Cody will be in Arizona while they are on this trip getting ready to come back. Minor league baseball starts up next week. SO the AAA guys will be in action soon.

The Giants are playing a lot better than people expected. But I do not think their pitching can hold up over the long haul. They lost Yaztremski to the IL today. They traded for Tauchman on Tuesday. The Yankees also have benched their catcher, Gary Sanchez. So more changes may be coming for the Bombers. I would love to see a progress report on Morrow. He is the one guy down there that I think could make a very positive impact on the pen. Well, let’s hope they have a very successful road trip. 7-3 would be great. Of the teams they play, only the Brewers are playing really well. The Angels have been doing a little better. I am waiting to see where this team is at the 50 game mark. That used to be Tommy’s measuring stick for what he believed the team was.

    Didn’t watch. Haven’t seen highlights.

Out of a debacle like this one, I try to look for something positive. Anything positive.

    So… Mitch White maybe?

Or were some of those outs scorching line drives that simply hit gloves?

Nice that Pollock hit a homer, I guess. But it would have been nicer from Muncy or Mookie.

But pending damning video, I’ll go with White as the Dodger of the Day.

Rooting for that guy to stick and make an impact. Now is his chance.

  2. QuasimodoMay 1, 2021

I’m convinced there is a protest we ain’t privvy to. You can’t tell me this is just a slump. I mean Dodgers are trying to suck with much success. The top of the 9th Seager, Turner and Muncy did their best to not make contact. They’re simply too good to play so bad.

  3. norcaldodgerfanMay 1, 2021

Spin it MT, spin it. We’re OK, nothing to see here, the worm will turn. Perspective, fact or fiction.

Two freaking hits. Spin the narrative that Lux will be a stud and not a dud, spin that Muncy will hit, spin that JT doesn’t look old and slow, spin that Mookie isn’t hurt and he’s just slumping, spin that Will Smith will find his offensive stroke, spin this is not a WS hangover and just a “blip in a long season.” Spin that this team has the best roster top to bottom of all major teams, spin that Rios is a major league hitter.

We look horrible, uninspired and listless.

  4. VengeurMay 1, 2021

Ok fellas, you’re world champions. Now could you do us fans a favor and start playing like it? Well we’ve all seen this stuff from the dodgers before, but it is really starting to get old. There’s no enthusiasm. No energy.

  5. VengeurMay 1, 2021

And if they did expand the strike zone they need to fix that box to reflect it, so that the ump doesn’t look like such an a-hole.

  6. VengeurMay 1, 2021

U m, did the strike zone get expanded overnight? I mean what the f.

  7. norcaldodgerfanMay 1, 2021

Snake bit, ice cold, slumping, injuries, can’t catch a break…….whatever you want call it that’s fine, but it’s obvious to me we suck right now.

  8. ZekeMay 1, 2021

Hard to watch to say the least. Losing series to Reds, Brewers!!!

    • Singing The BlueMay 1, 2021Reply

The Brewers are in first place in their division and have a record that’s only 1/2 game worse than ours.

That said, we could easily lose to any team in baseball right now, the way we’re hitting.

  9. Daniel EstradaMay 1, 2021

Brewers scored so the game is over

  10. BulldogsandPenguinsApril 30, 2021

Edwin Uceta starting the pen game. Fingers crossed he turns into a phenom and takes over a bullpen spot. 😉 I think he was touching 97 in the Spring.

  11. TherealtenApril 30, 2021

We have the best 5 man pitching rotation in baseball and we have a bullpen game. It looks like we just forfeit games at times. Our bullpen is awful so we start them. Our rotation is very good so we bench them. Oh well as long as we continue to throw out this feeble offense it really doesn’t matter. It must be especially perplexing for our starters to know a shutout might not get the win. Instead just go xtra innings and let the bullpen lose it.

Just posted something that had an attached link so I guess it’s being held up.

Here’s the story without the link:

Joe Kelly had shoulder surgery in November to remove a cyst that was pushing up against a nerve. This would explain all kinds of stuff although it doesn’t explain why the front office kept quiet about the whole thing.

I now have some hope that he could actually help us this year and apparently he is making good progress in his recovery. Said it had been bothering him for quite some time.

    • BulldogsandPenguinsApril 30, 2021Reply

I’m watching right now. Weird, that this is the first time it has been mentioned. Joe wanted to keep it quiet.

  13. Singing The BlueApril 30, 2021

Story out of Boston on Twitter says Joe Kelly had shoulder surgery in November. They found a cyst growing on some nerves.

That would explain why he wasn’t anxious to throw his fastball very much, or why we haven’t seen him yet this year.

Why in the world wouldn’t the team make an announcement about that?

Glad to hear from you Bear. I hope your trip is fun and you can get by not watching Dodger baseball while you are in Mariner country. You should enjoy the trip to Eastern Washington along the Columbia River Gorge. (I think the trip is less than 5.5 hours.) It’s a magnificent river and scenic drive. Think about a stop at Multnomah Falls, just off the main highway. Everything changes beginning at Hood River as you head east. The east side of Washington and Oregon is a hot and dry desert. Irrigated land and agriculture is the lifeblood. It’s also wine country irrigated by the Columbia, Snake, and Yakima Rivers. Washington is 2nd only nationally for the production of wine, behind California. Walla-Walla is near Milton-Freewater and is a nice little downtown with quite a wine culture, with sidewalk dining, when open. Covid has still kept a lot closed. I’m not trying to be a tour guide but my summer home is in the Tri-Cities an hour from Milton-Freewater. I hope you enjoy your trip. Safe travels.

i take it you live in CO Bear? me as well 4th gen CA native moved to western CO about 12yrs ago. god i HATE having to watch the rockies broadcasters when the two are playing. if i NEVER hear the words “subaru strike zone” again it will be too soon. i DO miss the pre and post game vs what mlbtv shows, but for $129 a year to have access to 4860 games or $99 just to watch your team is the best bargain in streaming imo.

anyway, saw your reference to rockies purple & had to post.

    go blue

    Cheers!

Could the bullpen look like this in upcoming weeks?

    Jansen

    Treinen

    Gonsolin

    Kelly

    Gonzales

    Alexander/Cleavinger

    Price

    White/Nelson

This still looks very solid to me. As we all know, a lot of this hinges on KJ. He has a history, he’s entrenched as the closer and he’s really hard to give up on if he’s less than consistent.

Uceta, Jackson and Carillo have yet to make their MLB Debuts, maybe we strike gold with one of them. Morrow and Knebel will/might be back at some point. Kahnle available in August or September? Help at the trade deadline?

    • EricApril 30, 2021Reply

      Take out:

      Kelly

      White/Nelson

And add 2 guys that get outs consistently against both sides of the plate and you got yourself a good bullpen.

      • EricApril 30, 2021Reply

Price…Multiple innings in blowout games/When the starter exits early.

Jansen…1 inning to start the 6th inning.

Treinen…1 inning when you know at least 2 of 3 upcoming batters are RHB.

Alexander…1 inning when you know at least 2 of 3 upcoming batters are LHB.

Gonsolin…7th and 8th inning. Possibly entering in the 6th inning.

Gonzalez…7th and 8th inning. Possibly entering in the 6th inning.

New guy…7th and 8th inning. Possibly entering in the 6th inning.

        New guy…9th inning closer.

The Dodgers started the season 13 – 2 and everyone wondered if they would break the single season record for wins. They have since gone 3 – 8.

The record reflects what the team has done. The offense and bullpen (and arguable the defense) have been incompetent. The starting pitching has been great.

Sure, it’s an 11 game stretch and all of that – but how long do they play badly before the team does something about the bad play?

I still believe that the offense will come around. I’;m not confident in the bullpen though.

    • Mark TimmonsApril 30, 2021Reply

I do not think you do anything until the 50 to 60 game mark.

Then, they have options, including Ruiz and Busch.

Bellinger and McKinstry will be back and Mookie will come around.

Bellinger will go back to clean up and Max will move to #7 where he can walk until the cows come home.

      • BulldogsandPenguinsApril 30, 2021Reply

Isn’t this the top offense in the league a year ago, minus Joc and Kike? Yeah, pretty sure we don’t have to do anything. Maybe the Cubs trade Joc back to us and eat some of his salary? Or, should we pick him up after his DFA?

  18. Mark TimmonsApril 30, 2021

No one can get a hit off Bauer… except for Home Runs.

The Dodgers bats must be allergic to home plate… they sure avoid stepping on it.

I got nothing else to say… except that this too shall pass… if we live long enough.

    Bear, you aren’t missing anything.

The Padres, Giants, and Dodgers all have a team ERA below 3.00. The Dodger lead all of baseball in WHIP.

    • porpoiseboyApril 30, 2021Reply

doing most of your damage with two outs is bound to catch up to you. at least last night it was not specifically hitting, it was WHEN they hit.

      cheers

A good percentage of comments on this blog relate to “who bats where” in the batting order. “Shohei should bat cleanup.” “ Freddie should be the number three hitter.” “No, Freddie should hit second.” “Max Muncy should hit cleanup.” “Mookie should hit 9th.” … and on and on… Where…
