So next year, Robber Manfred’s Traveling Circus & JuJu Medicine Show will play the All-Star Game at Chavez Ravine. Alrighty then! Will Bellinger and Muncy both compete in the HR Derby? I can hardly wait. However, I am being sarcastic. I’ll leave it right there.

The new MLB Power Rankings are out and the Giants at #1 with the Dodgers #2. The Giants com to the Ravine for four games starting Monday. That should be very interesting. Friday and Saturday, Buehler and Urias take the mound in Denver and Sunday it could be Price or JoJo. Maybe Clayton or JoJo…

  • The best Free Agent SS in baseball COULD be back this weekend!
  • Who still wants Francisco Lindor and his $341 Million boat anchor contract? He is htting .227 with a .702 OPS. He can no longer carry Corey Seager’s joc!
  • The Red Sox are for real and could be getting Chris Sale back soon as well as promoting Jarren Duran to be the starting Centerfielder allowing Alex Verdugo to play RF for which he is best suited.
  • Kike Hernandez is doing what he always does… except his defense is not as good as in the past, but he will be 30 next month.
  • I would say that Kiek and Joc may be missed as humans, but not on the field.
  • Finally, it appears that there will be some decision on the Trevor Bauer situation by July 27th. That gives AF a couple of days to get something done if the decision is adverse. I think there is a 50-50 chance he pitches again this year… for the Dodgers.

Down on the Farm

  • Diego Cartaya hit his 10th HR last night. He’s hitting .297 with a 1.000+ OPS in A-Ball as a 19-year-old.
  • Jake Vogel continuse to rake at RC, going 2-5 last night.
  • Vivas and Leonard also contine to look like they could move up a level.
  • Justin Yurchak went 6 for 9 in a double-header for GL last night as the Loons won both games. He is hitting .371 with a .916 OPS. In 167 AB’s he only has 2 HR’s. His OB% is .455!
  • Melvin Jiminez has been working his ERA down at GL – it now sits at 1.93 and he is being used exclusively out of the bullpen. He still needs to cut down on his walks, but his WHIP at 1.94 is acceptable. He is still only 21. He has been in the system since 2016, but now is showing signs of being a quality arm out of the bullpen.
  • Mike Busch was 2-3 with a double last night. He is starting to strng some hits together.
  • Miguel Vargas continues to play 3B and was 3-5 last night. Still 21, he is hitting .292.
  • Michael Grove contines to keep rolling out to the mound and not getting results. Well, he is getting results: Last night he pitched 3 innings, allowing 8 hits and 6 runs. OUCH!

What about all the other injuries? 43% games played over last 4 seasons!!! Can’t justify the big bucks for the limited playing time. BTW he was hit on the hands….fractured RH pinkie!

  2. hbdodger48July 16, 2021

Just trying to understand the Corey Seager situation. It is obvious to me that he can’t stay healthy and why would the Dodgers or anybody want to give him the big $$$$ based on the fact he has only played in 43% of the regular season games since 2018. I know he had a great postseason last year but does that justify a $200 million contract that Borass!! thinks he should get. He is not a stellar defensive SS….actually more of a liability with his fielding. I would be surprised if the Dodgers give him a long term deal and would hope we address one of our needs…..more right handed POP that can hit LH pitching. Could Trevor Story be the answer??? Not sure about Trevor’s number away from Colorado but I know he would bring a significant upgrade to our defense which has really been an issue this season.

  3. BearJuly 16, 2021

Well, I hope Joc likes Atlanta. Pitching in the eastern division a little tougher than the central. I think he is just the first chip to fall.

  4. ZekeJuly 16, 2021

The Braves and Cubs have swung a notable trade, as outfielder Joc Pederson is on his way to Atlanta. First base prospect Bryce Ball is the return going back to Chicago.

  6. BearJuly 15, 2021

Dodgers signed Bobby Wahl to a minor league deal a couple days after releasing him. Reks back to OKC. That means there will be a roster opening on Friday. With no games until tomorrow, and pretty much nothing else to discuss, the chatter has turned to politics. That will change when the games start. Lets stick to baseball and no name calling.

  7. BearJuly 15, 2021

Well, we all have our views and we are entitled to believe what we want to believe. Each person looks at the facts and reacts differently. I myself usually try to avoid politics for the simple reason that I am not all that educated on the issues or what each party is trying to accomplish. I no longer vote for the party, I vote for the person I feel is the better choice to run the country. I try to chose someone I feel can lead. In my mind, Hillary Clinton was the worst possible choice the Dems could have made. Outside of that, I feel the current president has no leadership capabilities what so ever. That is simply my personal assessment of the man. The same applies to baseball. I really disliked AF for a long time. His moves and trades were odd to me, and I did not agree with most of them. But over the last 5 years I have come to see that the guy knows what he is doing and I am nothing more than a fan. I am no fan of politics, and nowadays, if it does not affect me personally, I just simply ignore it. As for the vaccine, I got both my shots and they were given free simply because I live in a senior apartment. I got them because I read extensively about the vaccine I was taking and the after affects before I signed the paper authorizing the injections. All I got out of either was a sore arm for a short period of time. We still have restrictions in our building. A mask still needs to be worn in the common area’s. But I can go anywhere else in town with no restrictions. Everyone on here has their own opinion on whether or not to be vaccinated. Having been forced to take more shots than I care to think about when I was in the military, being allowed to chose was nice, In my entire life I had a bad reaction to a shot just once, at Fort Bliss in 1973 when I got a flu shot that made me so sick I was out for nearly a week. Since then I have never gotten a flu shot again. I am 7 months removed from receiving the injections, and I am totally fine. Sports and politics to me do not mix. I was in Munich when the terrorists killed the Israeli athletes back in 72. It was not the kind of thing you ever forget.

When I read this I know there is no argument, just name calling:

Don’t blame you. Some of the statements made on this site seem like an echo chamber from Fox News. Gets really old. There are times I think this site is less LA Dodger Talk and more Love the Ass of Donald Trump.

I can tolerate differing opinions but when the argument is lost, the tool of the loser becomes slander and I will not tolerate that!

  9. BoboJuly 15, 2021

There are progressive and conservative thinking folks here who choose to refrain from participating in “the nonsense “. Going back and forth calling each other names and trying to one up each other because we have a different political philosophy and point of view isn’t very pleasant for most, or maybe for some.

Insulting one another doesn’t represent our particular view very well, but it does reveal a lot about who we are.

So far there hasn’t been a whole lot of difference between either extreme.

I see the AS game had the 2nd lowest ratings EVER. Nice job #girlfred.

And now I have clarification if I will ever watch the NFL again ….. answer is a resounding NO.

    >>>>The NFL insider added that it will impose the “black national anthem” on all special events such as the Super Bowl, the playoffs, the draft and other such special broadcasts.

The source also said that going forward all players will be free to protest against the U.S.A. in any way they choose, as long as it is a “peaceful protest.”

  14. BearJuly 15, 2021

I finally figured out what Bellinger’s problem is. I saw a clip of him hitting for the cycle when he was a rookie. His hair was much shorter. Get rid of the hair Cody, it is throwing your swing off balance! My grandmother came here in 1902 as an immigrant from Germany. They went through Ellis Island, and did it the way they were supposed to. She and her family settled down in Minnesota, like many other European immigrants, and that is where most of the family still resides. My only thought on immigration is do it the right way and I have no problem with it. Come in illegally, send them home period. I do agree with Mark that those who helped the US should be brought here if they want to come. Otherwise, they are toast. We did it for some from Viet Nam when we pulled out, those in Afghanistan deserve the same.

  15. Mark TimmonsJuly 15, 2021

OK, I have two friends who are very high up in Homeland Security and both are fearful of how many illegals are streaming in from the southern border. My wife is an immigrant so we both have a heart for people who want to come to the USA.

BTW, if it’s such a racist country, why are so many persons of color wanting to come here?

But, my wife and her family came here the right way. They immigrated legally and become citizens. If you believe that the border crisis is inherited by Biden, you are disconnected from reality. It’s not just Mexicans and immigrants from The Triangle, but it is gang members, coyotes, huge amounts of drugs, and people from the Middle East who are coming unscathed through the border.

We left Afghanistan (right or wrong), but the US left behind 1,500 to 2,000 translators and their families. These people helped the Americans and the Taliban know who they are. They will be systematically slaughtered… yet the Biden Administration does nothing from them… they want to come in the right way. Yet, the ones who come in illegally are fine?

Let those damn Afghans be slaughtered is what they are saying!

BTW, my friends tell me that a substantial number of the “families” who are fleeing oppression are not really families. DNA tests say otherwise!

Why is the government allowing and encouraging this to happen? Think about it!

  16. BearJuly 15, 2021

Braves will not trade Morton unless they feel they are out of it, and right now they are not. He is so far their best starter. 8-3. And they have a ton of injuries to their starting rotation. So unloading Morton seems kind of a dumb thing to do, and you can bet, if they did decide to trade him, he would cost some prospects, maybe not one in the top 30, but something. Angels signed Adam Eaton. One thing Charlie does bring is very good post season numbers.

  17. dodgerrickJuly 15, 2021

No one here has a clue about what Friedman will do. If history is any indication, he will do something to try to move the needle based on need without giving up top prospects. So…

Number one need looks to be starting pitching. If Kershaw comes back healthy that’s 3 steady starting pitchers plus Price and Gonsolin, neither of which is a sure thing right now. No one knows if Bauer will be back. If he’s back then maybe there’s no need but I wouldn’t want to hazard a guess right now.

So what starting pitchers are available who would actually be an improvement and would be a plus in the post season who would not cost a top 5 prospect?

  18. BearJuly 15, 2021

So, Seager leaves via free agency…most likely, who becomes the Dodger SS in 22??? Lux? Not ready for prime time in my book. Story??? Might be more than AF is willing to spend, Baez? The ultimate showboat. If I want steady, I would put Taylor there as a short term solution. He might not have Seager’s bat, but he has a pretty decent glove. Who knows which way AF will lean. And he has to deal with this season before even thinking about the future. With a new CBA having to be negotiated, and Manfred the mongrel in charge, who knows if there will even be a 22. Not giving Seager any at bats is not exactly true. He has spent the break in Az at the training complex getting at bats. Same kind of pitching he would be facing at AAA or Rancho. Betts said taking a break from it all was the best thing for him and the team. They go to Denver for the weekend. Rockies have been playing better lately.

  19. TMJuly 15, 2021

So, how much $$$ do you think the Yankees will be able to sign Corey Seager for?

I hate to say this, but I think Corey wears pinstripes next year. Losing him would be huge. Like I said once before, no Corey (and no Julio), no World Series Rings.

  20. BulldogsandPenguinsJuly 15, 2021

The Dodgers seem to be pretty good at optimizing some of the pitchers they bring in by making a tweak here and there whether that be in pitch mix or a slight mechanical adjustment. If they see something in Morton that they feel they can fix, he might be a cheap pickup. But, we all know that the grand prize is Scherzer.

I would imagine that Ruiz is being shopped around like a Pad Squad member at a players only meeting. Maybe the Fish would let go of one of their up and coming pitchers to get a bat behind the plate. Maybe Andrew will strike again with something unexpected.

  21. dodgerpatchJuly 15, 2021

Yeah, the comments were pretty lively yesterday … and not necessarily in a bad way. I know politics have been verboten here for a long time, and with good reason, but if we can respect each other enough to not turn things into personal attacks on other people’s character, it can work. I appreciated Badger’s call to have respectful dialog and talk things out … but if we’re going to be seriously discussing whether Mary Hart, former host of Entertainment Tonight, is sending out secret white supremacy signals while speaking when her hand gestures make an OK sign, then I’ll politely bow out of that discussion.

That meme’s been making me laugh for months. Was glad to share the laughs.

One thing about yesterday, however, left me totally flummoxed. For literally years I’ve been told that any attempt to require any ID to vote is a clear and blatant attempt at voter suppression of black or Latino voters. This was at the heart of the whole Georgia voting law controversy. It’s why Manfred moved the AS venue. It’s why big corporate virtue signallers like Coke and Delta weighed in. It’s why Biden called it “Jim Crow on steroids,” and even more egregiously and irresponsibly, called the current attempts at state election reform the biggest threat to our nation since the Civil War. Why on Earth would he talk like this? This is so destructive to the national discourse!

Yet yesterday, almost nonchalantly, I see posters here cite Pew studies citing broad support across multiple demographics for voter ID requirements as if to show they were always in favor of voter ID.

“What?! I was always in favor of voter ID. What are you talking about?”

    No.

Bumsrap. I like you and am glad you’re back, but I’m not that dumb and my memory is not that short. The official talking points have made an about face because the Democrat Party saw the poll numbers and realized that the old talking points had very little public support among any demographic, so, just like that, we get gaslighted and the previously over-the-top histrionic opposition any ID requirements just goes down the memory hole like it never happened.

So, if voter ID requirements are now ok, what IS the controversy about, exactly? How ARE we on the verge of civil war according to Joe? Really? What a surreal reality we’re currently living in!

Forget it. Had to get that out.

Back to baseball. Saw a thing on Dodgers Nation about the possibility of going after Charlie Morton. Now it’s speculation time as the deadline approaches. To me, some guy with a mid 3 ERA is not enough to move the needle. We need someone good enough to allow Urias, if needed, to go back to the bullpen during the playoffs. As good as Urias has been, he’s still not the shut down innings eater you would need if you’re trying to match up against top tier teams in the playoffs… like Bauer would have been. I think the only option if you want that is Scherzer. Now it’s our opportunity to make wild ass guesses and be armchair GM and say what you think it will take to get him.

  22. tedraymondJuly 15, 2021

It should be interesting on how the Dodger pitching staff evolves. Will Gonsolin and Price prove to be adequate in the second half of the season? Will AF make a trade to bolster the starting staff? Will someone from the minors come up and out of no where become a star? We will have to wait and see.

Why no rehab for Seager? I don’t know. Does anyone have thought on why the Dodgers are handling Seager’s situation the way they are? Apparently, he has done a lot of hitting and fielding work here in LA while waiting for his hand to heal.

I’m a law and order guy so what’s going on and what has been going on for years at the border is totally unacceptable. Currently, ten of thousands are entering the country with little or no resistance. Among those entering the country are gang members, cartel members, hard core criminals that have been convicted here previously, terrorists, drugs, guns, and human trafficking. The Dems leadership say “but it’s very few of the illegals” or just ignore the issue. There probably have been over 1MM enter the country so far this year. I would consider 1% a “small amount”. Therefore, ten thousand + have now invaded our cities all over the country. Dem leadership at the national, state, and local have been so concerned and vigilant about protecting and controlling the spread of the Covid virus. Americans have lost loved ones, lost jobs, watched their children be denied an education unnecessarily, required to wear masks, restrict any large group gatherings, and closing of thousands of small businesses. And the people for the most part cooperated in order to stop the spread. Now, these illegals are let into the country unchecked with confirmed cases of Covid that go untreated. The Fed’s answer to continue to protect our citizenry? Put them on buses, boats, and planes and send their virus ridden bodies (and how knows what else) all over the country. I call the party in power the party of contradictions. They ask the country to sacrifice for the greater good. We do. And then they turn around and allow ten of thousands of infected people from all over the world access to our country. Until this recent invasion from the south most illegals arrived on visas and never left. With the capabilities of computers today you mean to tell me they don’t have a system that can’t track people arriving on a visa? Attach a tracking chip to their passport. Another deterrent might be a $50,000 fine or maybe 5 years in Federal prison for overstaying your visa. We don’t need more immigration laws. We need to enforce the ones we have. Or make new ones if that’s what the Congress wants to do. But, most politicians are gutless, power hungry, and lying people. So, nothing gets done. And the stupidity of it all is that the voters keep sending these idiots back to Washington. I just shake my head.

I know I went way overboard on this political stuff. I’ll refrain in the future.

    Carry on.

  23. BadgerJuly 15, 2021

Power Rankings don’t mean anything to me. What does the money think? Dodgers still favored.

You’re suggesting I don’t pay attention Bullpen. Thanks for the advice. I’ll consider it, like I do all things pointed out to me. I know we all choose to believe what we prefer to be true. I think that’s why we find ourselves where we do. Yes, interesting conversations yesterday. I’ll leave School Choice alone. As a former educator, I have opinions, but, this isn’t the place. You can have border and immigration too.

A ball numbers can be interesting, but they can also be misleading. What do these guys do in AA and above.? We now have selective algorithms there too. Fact is, we have one guy listed at fangraphs with a future value over 50. That’s Gray, he’s nursing and “still down the road.” Pepiot isn’t ready. I believe we need veteran help. My opinion on Bauer hasn’t changed. I wonder what the Dodgers are thinking?

”Seager back for the Giants series, with no rehab assignment and what seems to be a worse glove than what we’re getting from Lux?”

    Totally agree!!

  25. SCDodgerFanJuly 15, 2021

Sorry to hear Cody’s girlfriend got knocked up. Shacking up may be acceptable to many people today, but not me. In my day, back in the last century, marriage came before starting a family in polite society. Cody needs to man up in this situation. It may just be me, but Cody looks like he is on something.

Black Friday refers to when companies ledgers go from being in the negative (red ink) to positive (black ink).

  28. BulldogsandPenguinsJuly 15, 2021

Does anyone else think it’s odd that the Dodgers don’t plan on having Seager go on a rehab assignment? I know that Lux isn’t hitting much, but does it make sense to bring Seager back for the Giants series, with no rehab assignment and what seems to be a worse glove than what we’re getting from Lux?

Get back Jo-jo! I love the Beatles and spin their LP’s often. I’m not sure if there’s any others on this site, but I am one of those guys that still spins and collects Vinyl Records. I have quite a few Beatles albums and my favorite right now is Beatles for Sale.

Wow, Justin Yuchak has some lofty batting averages on his BR page! I’m glad to see Vogel starting to settle in. He’s a young kid and the Dodgers were really excited to start working on his swing after drafting him. Hopefully, the work they’ve put in is starting to pay off. The dude has game changing speed and will hopefully be our Center Fielder and leadoff hitter of the future.

It’s officially trade season now. I really liked how the draft coincided with the All-Star break and now we’re jumping into trading season. Over the past few years people have speculated on what AF might do. It seems that the consensus now is that speculation is futile since AF always seems to surprise us. The deadline falls on the 30th this year because they didn’t want it to fall on a Sunday. I sure hope AF finds a great Black Friday deal in July this year. Are we still allowed to call it “Black Friday” in today’s political environment?

Yesterday’s comments section was one for the ages! I don’t think I’ve laughed as hard reading on this site as I did yesterday. Patch’s meme made me laugh so hard I think I peed my pants a little. Seeing Bumsrap felt like bumping into an old friend after a long hiatus and Jayne broke it down perfectly in the most simplest terms. Pay attention Badger, you can learn something from Jayne’s comment regarding those familiar “News Agencies”.

In case you missed it, Bill Plaschke wrote a full virtue signalling article from high a top of his soap box. I find it disturbing that people want to convict others based solely on allegations. The LA times is another subscription I cancelled long ago.

Jo-jo is starting tonight’s game at OKC. So far, he’s pitched in two games since his injury and has given up 1 hit in two short starts totalling 6IP 1H 0R and 5K. He managed 4 innings on 53 pitches last time so I’m guessing we won’t see him on Sunday. It’s probably best that he doesn’t make his pro debut against the Rockies in Colorado or for the madhouse that will be Dodger Stadium during the upcoming Giants series.

My gut tells me that CK will be back in time to avoid a full on bullpen game since Gonsolin and Price are still building up. I guess if I had my way I would set the rotation as Urias, Bueller, Price for the Colorado series and then Kershaw, Gonsolin, Urias and Buller for the Giants series. This way the two guys that are “Building Up” don’t pitch back to back.

Well, we exhausted the voting rights subject yesterday. What do you all think about our Southern Border, Immigration and School Choice?
