You Be The GM

Okay guys, the trade deadline is just about six weeks away. Who do you target? Who do you bring up from the minors? Who gets cut loose? Fire away.

Man the pessimists come out after a rough stretch.

I heard a lot of the same things in ’18 and ya know what, that team made the World Series and if not for the cheating scum-bag Cora we probably win that one too…

Ill take my chances with the boys in blue in 23 as well…..

Coloradans going batshit crazy over the Nuggets winning the Championship. Unreal! Looks like more rain here again today. Dodgers come to Denver next week. Actor Treat Williams was killed in a motorcycle accident yesterday. He was in the movie version of Hair, and he did a comedy with Joe Piscopo called Dead Heat that was hilarious. RIP

As a comment off topic, I watched Kenley Jansen last night for the 1st time this year. He looked great. Good for him.

He and Baez used to drive me crazy. At first glacé, Kenley looks to me like being sped up by the pitch clock has helped him. He seems sharper, more free and easy without all the gyrations, fidgeting and time to over-think his delivery. Working faster has suited him well.

Pitching, pitching and pitching, relief and starting. No idea who will be available. Better idea when July arrives.

  7. philjonesJune 13, 2023

Another off topic comment. Watched the D-Backs – Phillie game last night. Corbin Carroll, who’s the leader in the clubhouse for NL, ROY, got hit by a pitch twice. After the 2nd, Lovello got run, after getting seriously in the HPU and Realmuto’s grill. Good for him.

It was his 12 ejection which leaves him 150 shy of Bobby Cox’s record of 162.

Imagine, Bobby Cox got ejected for an entire season, one game at a time.

In my too many years as a high school and assistant college basketball coach, we’ve spent hours discussing and pondering how to get the most out of our athletes. One and the most common approach we used (I posted it earlier) is to get the player out of his comfort zone. There are so many ways to try this method and I believe the Dodgers did it with Betts by moving him to shortstop now and then. Good athletes will laser focus because they are good for a reason and one to e the best wherever they play. All of us have probably coached baseball at some level, I can only speak to basketball. I was an assistant baseball coach for a year or two in high school. I mentioned earlier of going to go get a right handed bat to pinch hit. I mentioned Cabrera of the Tigers. I think him having the opportunity to help win another ring would make his at quicker and his steps lighter. We don’t need another swing from the heels strike out or home run hitter. I saw Stanton of NY mentioned, to expensive and wrong type of hitter. I could go on but I hope some will pickup what I’m throwing down.

I truly believe that we have the horses to finish this race and line up good in the playoffs. Bear48 picked such a topic that a person could dream a little bit. I think the rotation in the playoffs will heavily lean on May and his recovery. If he comes ack strong we have a ether chance than anyone to bring home the hardware.

Dodger’s really have problems. Jason Heyward in the cleanup. You have got to be kidding. lol!

Nevada Senate approved the A’s stadium plan. Now it moves to the state legislature. OKC scored 9 runs in the first inning tonight against Salt Lake City. They had 6 extra base hits in the inning. Ward has hit two homers. One in the first, and one in the second. OKC leads 10-1 in the second.

  13. OhioDodgerJune 14, 2023

Everything revolves around the starting pitching. I would build a team around 4 or 5 starters that can go 6 to 7 innings and give up 3 or less runs. Definition of a quality start. Doesn’t over tax the bullpen or the offense. By the way, a quality start of 6 innings and 3 runs is an ERA of 4.50. So they don’t have to be great pitchers to fill that roll.

  14. WayneJune 14, 2023

Yay! ghost-of-Ron Cey with his first Dodger Stadium hit!

  15. Ron Fairly fanJune 14, 2023

Kind of amazing Ferguson was that good tonight and batting practice on the road. Also the A’ s need to be broken up they just beat the Rays and extended their winning streak to 7 games.

  16. OldBear48June 14, 2023

After scoring 24 runs on Sunday, OKC tonight scored 17 in their win over Salt Lake City. Michael Busch went 3-4 with a homer and a triple and 4 runs batted in. It was his 7th homer of the year, and his fourth in his last five games. He is now hitting .320 with a .988 OPS. Ryan Ward clubbed two bombs and also drove in 4. The team as a whole had 11 extra base hits, 7 doubles, a triple and three homers. Every player in the starting lineup had a hit except Yurchak. Devin Mann went 3-3 and is now hitting .318. Hagenmann started and went 4 innings giving up 4 runs. Reed allowed 2 in 1.1 innings, Hudson relieved Reed and went 1.1 giving up a run and got the win. Bruihl and Suero closed the game out. Kole Calhoun was 1-3 with a ribbie.

Great win last night, Happy Kershaw day!!

    Lets get another win…

Who still predicts that Vargas is in the hunt for ROY? I don’t think you’ll ever budge Mark off of that belief.

Just checked Corbin Carrol’s stats. He the current leader in WAR, and his wRC+ is one point higher than Freddie Freeman’s at 166 (100 is league average). That places him 3rd behind Aaron Judge and Yordan Alvarez in offensive production.

Not only, barring catastrophe, is it a foregone conclusion that he’s going to be the ROY, he’s making a good case for MVP. The Dbacks have been one of the surprise teams this year, and he’s a big reason for it. If the Dbacks win the division, he’s my NL MVP without question, which would be the first time ever that an NL player has won both ROY and MVP in the same year. Ichiro and Fred Lynn accomplished this over in the AL.

I keep saying this, but I don’t think it’s going to be a very active trade season this year. There are very few legitimate sellers, and the ones who are have nobody really worth trading for. I don’t even think the White Sox want to get rid of players they have under control for a while and they consider part of their core. Guys like Grandal? Yeah. Guys like Cease or Anderson? No. They want to compete next year and the year after. They’re not in full tear down/rebuild mode.

I read here someone mentioning Burnes from the Brewers. Do you really think the Brewers are sellers? They’re in the playoff hunt and they just got Woodruff back. They can easily win that division.

The Dodgers will not likely trade for anyone with any name recognition, but might pick up some peripheral role player that we’ve not heard of. AF might surprise me, though.

  19. MattJune 14, 2023

Bobby Miller is our Hershiser of 1988, Freeman is our Gibson, Peralta is our Mickey Hatcher, Heyward is our Mike Davis….if the Dodgers can win in 88 this team can too!!

  20. jmbJune 14, 2023

The Dodgers are a team of now, not later. Sure they’ve got lots of good looking prospects, but they’ve got the starters (when they’re all healthy) so they need to go for it now, and in the coming few years. So trade for Arenado, and put Muncy at second, when his hammy is all better. I’m sure Arenado would wave his no-trade clause to play for the Dodgers, his favorite team growing up. How much would it take? St. Louis needs starters, so Grove and Stone would have to be included. They’d want Pepiot, but I wouldn’t include him. Busch would be included, maybe Vargas too. Would the Cardinals want the Dodgers to take Contreras as well? If so, the Dodgers could send Syndergaard for him.

Not doing a damn thing today but relaxing. It is my 75th birthday I am going to enjoy it even if it kills me! Kersh will give me a nice present with a win tonight.

Josue dePaula good game yesterday. 3-4 with his first HR at RC.

18 year old five tool player. Keep an eye on him. He might be the best all around talent in our system in the outfield since Mondesi.

    Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!

Dodgers Food Trailer

I did this interview a couple of weeks ago with Chef Mike, who runs the Dodgers Food Trailer for the Great Lakes Loons. They are there for every home and road regular season and playoff game. They prepare three meals a day for approximately 50 people (players and coaches). Since games end late most evenings, they do not prepare breakfast. Many of their hotels have a complimentary breakfast anyway. However,…

Meet LAD 2026 Draft Picks 1-12

3 picks were High School players (2 SS and 1 OF). There was a college OF, college catcher, college SS, and 10 college pitchers. Of all the talk for a need for a catcher, the only catcher the Dodgers selected was Luke Bard, son of LAD bullpen coach Josh Bard. Bard was a 4th year senior from Houston Christian University. He is not a prospect, so the Dodgers are still…

Interview with Paul Beachy – Team Bus Driver For The Great Lakes Loons (LA Dodgers Minor League Team)

It’s been a few days since I did this interview. We have evidently been working my son-in-law (the video guy) like a rented mule at US Water Systems. However, I am taking him to London with me in a few days, so maybe Watford will buy him a pint as a tip, but he’s a dang Red Sox fan, so there is that! I thought that it would be interesting…

Thanks for Your Service: Chris Taylor

I was going to do this post when Chris announced he was retiring, then he changed his mind, but since the chances of him ever playing for the Dodgers again are slim and non-existent, I will go ahead with this post. He unretired, went on the IL, then decided to call it quits on May 24th. Taylor was born in Virginia Beach VA on August 29th, 1990. He attended Great…
