Tyler Glasnow and Dodgers Dominate Colorado

Tyler Glasnow was not affected by the cold as he continued a string of strong SP starts going 7.0 innings. He did allow a run on a play that Max Muncy probably had a play at the plate, but with a 5-0 lead thought it was better to get the out at first and stay out of a potential big inning. Tyler dominated the Rockies allowing 2 hits and issuing 2 walks to go with his 7 Ks.
Glasnow has now completed 6.0 innings in three starts, and 7.0 innings in one start. This is a different Tyler Glasnow from last year. We can only hope that he stays healthy and keeps it up.
Jack Dreyer finished up the final 2 innings to complete the win.
Teoscar Hernández was the only LAD starter not to get a hit.
Max had another big night going 3-4 with 2 HRs. He now has 5 HRs and 7 RBIs on the year.
Shohei doubled in his 1st AB and now has reached base in 49 straight games, and is 1 behind Wee Willie Keeler. Shawn Green would be next at 53 and Duke Snider leads the organization with 58. Snider’s 58 game streak is also the NL record. If he continues, Ohtani could tie the record a week from Sunday against the Cubs, and could stand alone on Monday, April 27, against Miami.
With their 15th win, the Dodgers are tied with the 1906 Giants, the 1922 Giants and the 1928 Yankees for the most wins through the first 19 games of a season by a reigning World Series champion.
With the victory and the Padres loss to the Halos, the Dodgers now have a 2.5 game lead over SD and s 3.5 game lead over Arizona.
LAD MiLB Affiliate Game Summaries
OKC Comets 13 – Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado) 12
LHSP Logan Allen started (not River Ryan as anticipated) and completed 5.0 innings. It was gritty outing allowing 3 runs, on 6 hits, 2 BB, and 3 K.
The Comets built up a 13-3 lead through 6 innings. The Comets brought in LHRP Ronan Kopp who continued to struggle with his control. He retired the side in order in the 6th, but his control issues returned in the 7th. He walked the first three batters, gave up a single, and walked his 4th batter without recording an out.
RHRP Carlos Duran entered with the bases loaded and struck out the first batter he faced. That was followed by a BB, fielders choice, single and walk to reload the bases before being lifted by RHRP Keynan Middleton. Middleton issued two more BB and 2 runs scored.
In the 9th, new OKC RHRP Griff McGarry entered in a save situation. After 2 walks and a single, he exited with the Comets holding onto a 1 run lead and two runners on. RHRP Jordan Weems relieved McGarry and struck out the final batter to preserve a 13-12 victory.
The Comets issued 12 walks in the game, with 10 of them occurring between the seventh and ninth innings, including four with the bases loaded…Each of the last six runners to score for the Isotopes reached base via walk.
Offensively, every Comet had at least 1 hit. Zach Ehrhard and Ryan Fitzgerald each had a pair of hits and 3 RBIs, with Fitzgerald hitting his 2nd triple. Ehrhard had a sac fly and Fitzgerald walked. Nick Senzel and Austin Gauthier also had a pair of hits. James Tibbs III doubled (5) and Noah Miller tripled (1) for the other XBH.
I am not sure what this means, but:
Tulsa Drillers 5 – Arkansas Travelers (Seattle) 4
Patrick Copen started his 3rd game after not allowing a run over 11.1 IP in his previous 2 starts. He did not duplicate those efforts in this one. He allowed 4 runs (3 earned) in 4.1 IP. He surrendered 7 hits, issued 2 BB, but compiled 5 K. Copen left the game trailing 4-1.
Kelvin Ramirez, Lucas Wepf, and Nick Robertson followed Copen with 4.2 innings. Combined, they allowed 1 single, 1 BB, and 7 K. Robertson struck out the side in the 9th.
Tulsa scored their 1st run in the 3rd on a Jake Gelof double and Kendall George RBI single.
Tulsa started the climb in the 6th with a George single, moving to 2nd on a catcher throwing error on pick off attempt. George scored on a Kyle Nevin single.
The Drillers inched closer in the 8th. Gelof singled and moved to 2nd on a George fielder’s choice. Gelof scored on a single from Josue De Paula.
That set up the Drillers for some 9th inning magic. Griffin Lockwood-Powell led off the inning with a double and was still at 2nd after two outs. Gelof came to the plate and slugged a walk off 2-run HR to complete the comeback win.
Jake Gelof was the hitting star going 3-4 Including a double (1) and HR (1). He scored 3 runs and knocked in 2. Kendal George and Josue De Paula each had a pair of hits.
Zyhir Hope failed to get a hit for the first time this season, snapping a 10 game hit streak.
On Saturday, the Drillers will play a DH with Wyatt Crowell and Payton Martin getting the starts.
Dayton Dragons (Reds) 8 – Great Lakes Loons 1 – Game 1
LHSP Sterling Patick was starting his 3rd game of the season after a couple of very good starts. In 9.2 IP, Patick allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, 4 BB, and 14 K. But in this start, Patick last 3.1 innings, allowing 3 hits (2 earned) on 6 his, 3 BB, and 3 K. Alex Makarewich inherited 2 runners in the 4th with one out, but both runners scored.
The Loons eked out 5 singles and a Mike Sirota double (2). Nico Perez was the Loons only hitter with a multi-hit game with 2 singles.
Great Lakes Loons 5 – Dayton Dragons (Reds) 4 – Game 2
Logan Tabeling started and completed 3.1 innings before being relieved. He allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits, 1 BB, and 8 K. Tabeling left training 1-0 and Myles Caba relieved him getting out of the 4th. But after being unhittable in his first 4 appearances, Caba allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits, 2 BB, and 2 K in the 5th, giving Arkansas a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 5th, Nico Perez led off with a single. Jose Meza followed with a BB, and Samuel Munoz followed with a single scoring Perez and Meza reaching 3rd. Meza scored on a Jesus Galiz Sac Fly.
In the 6th, Mike Sirota led off with a triple (1) and scored on a Perez Sac Fly.
The Loons entered the 7th down 4-3 and in danger of dropping both games in a doubleheader. Jose Izarra had a 1-out single. With 2 outs, Eduardo Quintero drew a walk bringing up Sirota. On a 3-1 count, Sirota (3) doubled to plate both Izarra and Quintero for the walk off win.
Sirota was the only Great Lakes batter to register 2 hits and the only Loons batter to have an XBH with 2: double and triple.
Mike Sirota now has a seven-game hitting streak, the second longest active streak in the Midwest League.
Fresno Grizzlies (Colorado) – Ontario Tower Buzzers 4
RHSP Cam Leiter started and completed 2.0 scoreless innings. He did not allow a hit, walked 1 and struck out 3.
RHRP Brock Stewart pitched in his 2nd rehab game going 0.2 innings allowing a hit. He was relieved by Jesus Tillero who was unscored on in his previous 11.0 IP. However, in this one he was not as productive. He left the game with one out in the 7th with 2 runners on trailing 2-1.
RHRP Domingo Jimenez entered and served up a 3-run HR giving the Grizzlies a 5-1 lead.
Offensively, the Tower Buzzers outhit Fresno 11 to 5. Ching-Hsein Ko was playing his 2nd game with Ontario and went 3-4, including his 1st HR. 3B Emil Morales continued his blazing start going 3-5.
LF AJ Soldra reached base twice by tripling (3) and walking. Jose D. Hernandez ended the scoring for Ontario with a leadoff HR (1) in the 9th.

Three good lefties. Root needs to find that form he had in Futures Game. Ferris has a chance to put his name in the mix. Crowell [although I confuse him with Wright] looks to be taking a step forward.
Landon Knack on the IL? There’s really nobody in AAA ready to step in. Roki or bust [at least until Snell comes back, at which time there’s 80% chance someone needs a spell].
Why not scoop in and sign Lucas Giolito for a year wigh heavy incentives?

Nope, Ward will get the starts against RHP. Ward is a lousy outfielder.
Based on his track record, I give him a pass. He is still an elite player. I did check his splits; he was 35 points higher and his OPS was over .700 in the second half. He also cut down his Ks as he got healthier. And his defense was stellar. Yeah, he will move at some point, but Kim is not going to be his replacement. He might be better defensively, but his offense is still unproven, and he still strikes out too much.

Pages has been the story of the season so far. Watched the entire game last night with my 16 y.o. son [the age I was in LA in 1988]. Couldn’t believe how clean we played. Nearly flawless baseball.
Yeah, I know he was sick to begin the year. But I don’t buy it as an excuse for the entire season. If he was so weak how did he put up such outstanding defensive numbers at the toughest position in the infield? And check his splits. He was slugging over .400 at the beginning of the year, with an OPS+ over 100. He slumped in the summer, suggesting to me he was probably wearing out. He was done by post season. And now he’s on the IL. Shortstop is a demanding position. Mookie is a remarkable athlete, but he’s 34. It’s my opinion the organization should do a better job of protecting him. If they don’t we are going to continue to see declining offensive numbers.
Congratulations to Ward! A culmination for hard work and persistence. Really hope Roberts gives him good exposure
How many here would have predicted that 19 games in, Pages would have an OPS 200 points higher than Ohtani? Besides Smith, Pages, Call and Rushing are the only three Dodgers hitting over .300. Teo was until his ofer last night. Announcers jinx in full force last night. Rockies announcer Drew Goodman had no sooner touted the fact that the Rockies bullpen had 19.0 consecutive scoreless innings when Max launched his second homer deep into the night. Ohtani is tied for fifth on the team in RBIs with 10. Pages, Freddie, Teo and Tucker all have more. Tucker still does not look right at the plate. He is striking out more than he usually does. 4th on the team with 19 Ks. Shohei, Max and Teo, all over 20. I will say this, in warmer weather, a couple of the balls hit by the Dodgers would have left the ballpark instead of being caught. Especially Tuckers double off of the wall and Freeland’s shot to center run down by Doyle.
Also Ward is on the 40 man roster and Tibbs is not.
And probably over-matched against a really good pitcher like say Skenes.
Mookie was also very ill to start the season; he had lost almost 20 pounds. He had one of the best defensive runs saved stats by a SS in the majors. Yes, he might move to 2nd eventually, but when Edman is healthy, neither Freeland or Kim is going to be on the team because Espinal, Kim and Freeland will be replaced by Betts, Kike and Edman.
Happy for Ward to get his cup of coffee. A lineup with Rushing, Ward, Freeland & Kim would be wild.
Freddie going on maternity leave the most likely reason Ward is coming up. Tibbs III has cooled off considerably and Ward has heated up.
Ward will replace either Hernandez or Freeman. Teo fouled a ball off of his toe. But the MLBTR report says it is most likely because Freeman will go on paternity leave.
Hernandez fouled a ball off of his toe last night, and Freeman could be going on paternity leave. Those were the two scenarios. Ward crushes RHP, but he is not very good against lefties. He would platoon where ever he plays. And it will be a short stay.
1. If Ward is called up, it’s more a favor to him than anything. If he does well, some team may want him. We shall see… 2. Mason Miller would have been great to have, and I would take him in a heartbeat. The problem is that the Dodgers did not have a player equal to or better than DeVries to get him last year. To get a player of that caliber takes a a top 5 prospect in return and the Dodgers did not have that. 3. The Dodgers are on track to win 128 games! 4. I asked AI if a Domed Stadium at Coor Fields would control the flight of a baseball in light air for home runs and balls put in play making the home team more competitive for the pitching staff and this was the reply:: A domed stadium in Denver would not naturally control the “light air” (low air density) caused by altitude, but it would provide better control over humidity and temperature, which are the other major factors in how far a ball flies. Key Factors for Ball Flight Control Air Density (The “Light Air”): Simply closing a roof does not change the atmospheric pressure. To make the air as “thick” as it is at sea level, the stadium would need to be artificially pressurized like an airplane cabin. This is technically difficult and potentially dangerous for fans entering and exiting through standard doors. Humidity Control: Denver’s dry air traditionally makes baseballs harder and more “bouncy,” causing them to fly further. A dome would allow for a Climate-Controlled Environment where humidity could be increased to make the ball slightly heavier and less lively. Temperature Stability: Baseballs travel roughly 3 feet further for every 10°F increase in temperature. A dome would prevent the extreme heat of summer days that often turns fly balls into home runs in Denver. Wind Elimination: Wind can add or subtract up to 30 feet of distance. A dome would eliminate the unpredictable “jet stream” effects often seen at Coors Field. Existing Solutions Rather than building a dome, the MLB already uses a humidor to store balls at 70 degrees and 50% humidity. This treats the ball itself rather than the entire stadium’s air, successfully reducing home run rates since its introduction in 2002.
